Are there any 100+ year old Baptist churches in Wesson, MS? I'd like to see if there are any church records or a possible church history mentioning my family. My grandmother, Mittie Lucinda Cupit (1876 - 1969) and her parents probably belonged to one of the Baptist churches. Her father was Cyrus William Cupit (1844 - 1900) and her mother was Nancy Naoma Porter Cupit. Mittie married Robert Augustus Franks (1871 - 1920) sometime before 1901, most likely by a Baptist preacher in or near Wesson. Mittie & Robert had two children born in Wesson (Lucille b. 1901, & Ruth b. 1903) but had moved to Louisiana by 1910. Does anyone know also of 100+ year old cemeteries in or near Wesson? Most likely, her parents would have been buried there in Cupit or Porter plots. I'd appreciate any help you can give. I live in Louisiana and hope to visit these places. Thanks, Allana Bosch
Hi Chris, I was born in Wesson. Never lived there. Mom just went home to have me. I go back every fall. I love the area, a bit hard to find good paying work, thus I have never gone back for good. Anyway, the Beauregard cemetery is quite old. Graves from the early to mid 1800's there. Also the Sardis Cemetery and the Franklin Cemetery(I have all the names there) and the big cemetery, Wesson Cemetery is quite old indeed. It is quite large. There are a few I know of that have no markers. One is a Bailey Cemetery and the other was by the old Hotel of ill repute that was there when the town was booming with Colonel Wesson cotton mill. We had Mississippi silk, the finest cotton grown. Town boomed while the railroad went thru and made stops. Then the bank called in all notes and lots of folks lost everything. But I digress.... There are lots of old cemeteries. I believe that Sardis is Baptist. The Copiah county website has them all marked on a map. http://www.rootsweb.com/~mscopiah/Help/Cemeteries_of_Copiah/cemeteries_of_copiah.html Annie Chris and Allana Bosch wrote: > > Are there any 100+ year old Baptist churches in Wesson, MS?
