In the 1830 census of Copiah Co. is POLLY MCLELAN, living alone near her three sons, John, Archelaus and Samuel. I am looking for the name of her husband who was deceased by 1830. The family I am researching decends through her son Archelaus McLelan. This famiy came to MS from SC after 1810 and before 1817. I have been trying to sort out these MCLELANS for 5yrs. and am really STUCK. Various spellings of the name I have found: McLeland (the one my family uses), MccLellean, McLellan, McClelland and on and on, almost any variation possible.
