My experience with MS archives last year was first I paid a $15 or $20 fee, sent them all the information for the three marriages I wanted.....two from Copiah & one from Marshall ....remember there was some sort of mix up & about 2 weeks later I got a note saying that they had the stuff I requested (copies of original marriage license) & to send so much more for the number of copies I wanted, don't recall exact figure but it was less than $15. Long story, but about 9 weeks later & after 3 phone calls I got them......they kept telling me that they had been sent...well, DUH! I never got them & my address was the same as the check they so promptly cashed a couple months earlier. Listen I have another suggestion for you...For several months I have been in touch with this gal in MS, she lives in Jackson, her name is Ronnie Margaret Farris McGinnis & she is editor of the "MS Genealogical Connections" a quarterly magazine on MS genealogy. (She is the one who told me about the AlphaSmart portable word processor) This is the lady I met with at the archives & also took some pictures to. If you pay a $24 subscription fee you get the publications; you can submit queries via email to be published; I know if you are a subscriber, you can pay her a $15 search fee & she will research & photo copy no more than three microform death certificates that are abstracted from her articles. Anyway, in one of the magazines, it says The MS State Dept of Health is the official state repository of all death certificates from 1912 to present. The Reference Library, MS Dept. of Archives & History, has microform copies of death certificates from 1912 to 1943; however some years are incomplete and all of 1917 is missing. ( I seem to recall that awhile back you were looking for someone's death) You might contact her & ask if she will look for your marriage for a fee......the state people charge you the $15 or $20 up front & then additional if they have to do more research, etc....so they sorta leave you hanging as to how much it will be.....however you should be able to write the person's name an approximate time the marriage may have ta Ronnie is honest & seems to be a real nice gal. The publication is a typical genealogy publication with various articles & queries for MS & some trees in the back. Each issue will be different. Here is her name & email....write her & ask her what she would charge you to do a look up.......< billron@bellsouth.net > or if you subscribe to the magazine would you be entitled to a free look - up...the above was extracted from the magazine on her doing look ups for deaths ....tell her we are cousins & I suggested you contact her & maybe she can give you some suggestions, plus she does live in Jackson & goes to the archives several times a week from what she told me. She was so nice to me, I decided I would subscribe at least for the year to the magazine...so far the Spring & Summer issues are out...if you decide to subscribe she will probably send you the back issues....email her first & ask whatever & if you think you want to subscribe you can get the particulars from her...though you just make the check out to her, Ronnie Margaret Farris McGinnis, 1500 Eastover Drive, Jackson, MS 39211 & again the publication is called MS Genealogical Connections.
