Lynda - I'm in northern Lincoln County, just south of Wesson - Will be glad to work with you during summer on transcription. I did the index in Copiah courthouse for the loose will files, and also did one on an old land record book. I work during day (middle school), but you can call me at night for next two weeks. After that, I'll be home during the day. Bob, If you haven't seen these: Using Northernlight.com, a search on: 1- Mississippi tornado 1883 and 2- Copiah County tornado 1883 produced, among a bunch of other things (that seemed worthless), these two hits: -- U.S. Worst Tornadoes: Apr 22, 1883 - Wesson 56 dead, 300 injured; Beaugegard 29 dead, Georgetown 29 dead. April 22, 1883 - a tornado outbreak occurred with many tornadoes reported from Louisiana to Kansas and east to South Carolina. A total of 200 people were killed. An F4 tornado struck Wesson, Beauregard, and Georgetown, Mississippi with 56 killed and 300 injured from this tornado alone. Anyone have any ideas where I might be able to research this storm? I'm interested in the 56 killed and their burials. Bob

I am interested, but I have no idea what is involved. Can you let me know more?
The transcribing of the 1860 census for Copiah County has stopped and we are seeking anyone that might be able to help continue the project. This would be very helpful for many researchers in Copiah. I have no idea how long or how difficult this transcribing task is, perhaps, Lynda can offer some ideas on the effort. Please think about it and, if possible, volunteer to complete the project. If interested, please let me know. Bob Crawford www.rootsweb.com/~mscopiah
