    3. Am going to be in Crystal Springs during the Christmas-New Years Holidays and will try to obtain a copy of the "Transcribed History of Copiah County" and will ask for permission to transcribe it to this mailing list. Am also willing to help out with the organization of a Copiah County Historical Society although I live in Virginia and only get back to MS once or twice a year to visit my mother-in-law, Mrs. Ina Grantham at Lake Copiah. She loaned me her copy of "Gallman, It's Early History" by Mary Helen Sims which I have listed online at "Books We Own" for lookups. If anyone on this list needs a lookup from that book, email me and I'll do whatever I can to find what you're looking for. Tom Wilde Chesapeake, Virginia

    2. Lynda, I know both Shirley and Joyce. I'll give Shirley a call and see what she has to say. I have talked to a few local people and gotten a warm reponse. I hope the "locals" will be as enthusicastic as people out of state have been. I think with the CS library remodeling and enlarging, this would be an excellent opportunity to begin genealogical resources started there. I recently attended Historical Society meetings at Carthage and at Forest. Both were held in the local libraries and they had such impressive collections of hard copies and CD's for genealogical research. Also, such much work needs to be done in Copiah County on updating cemetery records and working with the newspapers and court house officials to transcribe records to make them more easily accessible as well as to insure their preservation. So, with the holiday season upon us, it may be early next year before things get started. I need to locate some enthusiastic people here and schedule an organizational meeting and move on from there. Thank you for your encouragement and support. Dan

    3. I had ask Joyce about where the Meteor was, and she told me that it was at Southern, also someplace else. Bud went to school and graduated with me, and is retired now himself, he would sure be a very good person, and he is online, I know some of the cemeteries, were done early on, someone put Pinebulff on line but its not complete, and many other folks are burried there, Cleo Sullivan, bless her heart, is in a Nursing home in Brookhaven, her husband is there, and there is a place for her. Also Ray Mohon's family and some of the Carraway family we all knew. Dorothy Alford, bless her heart, do you know how she is, know she is still living at home, we at one time lived across the street from her, where there is now an apartment complex now, was very surprised to see it there this summer. The Sweeny family was across from us, and the street right by there house. So many memories there. I will help anyway I can you know it might start with a nice letter to the Editor~ and some interest might be generated that way, someone, who is very organized (I am not) might just know how to start. There are still some folks out in the Jack community who would enjoy being part of this, Some Strongs on the Dentville Road too. God bless, Lynda you could do the letter, and list email address to contact, What do you think.? At 08:46 PM 11/24/2000 EST, you wrote: >Lynda, > >I know both Shirley and Joyce. 3. Dan I dont know mr Paul, but shortly after I began to transcribe the 1850 copiah county census, he wrote to me asking if I might share it with him, well since I had not finished, only begun, I explained to him it was going to take a while, never heard from him again. I do know that Shirley Purvis in CS is a DAR member, my application has been finished for a year, but anyway Joyce Carney told me that Shirley might know a little about this or how to start. You might want to talk to her, also my cousin works at the Archives in Jackson, and they are expanding, noticed the library in CS is moving and wont reopen till Jan 2, but there should be a way we can do this. I would not count on any help from Mr Cartwright, for somereason he doesnt respond unless well your note says why, but he should understand, there are many of us out there who want to do many things to pitch in and do what can be done to begin this. We appreciate your help.
