    3. Bob, Let me say a wholehearted thank you for the hard work you've done. This can't have been easy and with so many queries to respond to, it's a wonder you ever got anything done. I particularly appreciate the site, since I've been out of MS for many years and the cemeteries on the site has provided significant input for me to update my family trees for the O'Neal, Parrett(e), Shearer, and Cook branches as well as many cousins. Again, thanks, and may you have a wonderful holiday season and a very prosperous new year! 2. Hello All, I know that this is not directly related to the genealogy subject matter and I'm sorry if I offend anyone. I want to thank all those on this list that have supported the building of the Copiah site (www.rootsweb.com/~mscopiah) by submitting maps, pictures, submitting and responding to queries, cemetery listings, history articles, and the big job of transcribing the census. I, as a researcher and the county coordinator, really appreciate all the hard work and support that I have received from many of you on this list. I believe we have made major progress on the site during the last twelve months and I look forward to 2001 year. I think we will see some additional census files, the beginning of the actual plotting of land owners using the BLM records, and the publication of more cemeteries. Perhaps, we shall see the establishment of a Genealogy/Historical society for Copiah County!!! Thank you and please have a safe and wonderful Holiday. Merry Christmas everyone....

    1. Re: [MSCOPIAH-L] GILBERTS & APPLEWHITES in Copiah/Lincoln Co., Ms
    2. Larry There is only one Applewhite reference. This information was copied by Frances A. Cook in January 2, 1954. It is from the Providence Baptist Church Cemetery located 17 miles west of Hazlehurst on Highway 20, 4 miles south. Apparenty the stone was large and broken and lying face down. I guess it was too heavy to be lifted and turned over as there is no further information given other than it is a marker for a "Applewhite". I believe there are still some Applewhites living in that area of the county today. The cemetery is located at T9N R6E. That is all that is listed. Dan

(There is a copy of this book at the State > Archives). > Dan, Thanks for your info on the library resources in Copiah Co., Ms. I did spend limited time in the Copiah Co Court House, and in the libraries in Hazelhurst and Brookhaven. As a result of the visit, I now realize that my GILBERT ancestors got land from the BLM in Copiah Co., but that the land became part of Lincoln Co when it was formed in 1870. Neighbors were the Applewhites: Seth, John & Eldridge. These names appeared in the probate records for William & Webster Gilbert. Do you have any references to these Applewhites in the Mississippi Bible & Cemetery Records book? I am trying to pinpoint the land where they lived. I suspect they were buried (abt 1840) on their respective properties, probably without any permanent markers. Larry Hallstrom
