Okay, I've discovered some more clues, and I need help digesting it, and if anyone can fill in the blanks...................... 1) I NOW know that our JAMES C. GRAYSON was James CAMERON Grayson, son of Cameron Grayson and Sarah_______. (per James' death certificate filed with State of Mississippi). 2) CAMERON GRAYSON was listed in court records during the disposition of JOHN CROSBY SR's will, as married to SARAH, grand-daughter of John Crosby Sr. (With that said, it is not certain if her last name was CROSBY or not, but at this time I am going to say it is.) 3) Children of Cameron Crosby & Sarah Crosby......... Lavenia b. ca 1833 Thomas b. ca 1836 William (Bill) b. ca 1838 d. 1882 Reubin b. ca 1840 d. 16 Apr 1906 JAMES b. 25 Mar 1843 d. 10 Jan 1894 married Martha Carter Dallas b. ca 1846 Bruce b.18 Nov 1848 d. 4 Aug 1915 Eloiza b. 1849 (Listed in 1850 Census but not in Cam Family Bible) Samuel b. ca 1853 Edward b. ca 1857 Note: According to the 1850 and 1860 MS Census, SARAH's ages are different enough, and with the span of births between Eloiza and Samuel, I'm going to go out on a limb and say there were 2 Sarah's, (James C. Grayson's death certificate states "Mother's name unknown"....which is another reason to believe that if Sarah #1 died prior to 1853, James would have been less than 10 years old, which would lend credibility to not knowing her name) and then it is known that Cameron Grayson married Margaret Griffith. They were also both members of the East Pleasant Grove Church in Quitman, Clarke, MS. NOW......with all that said, you would think I'd be thrilled to have the above info and the proof of who our JAMES C. GRAYSON's family was. YOU'D THINK! But of course, now I'm ready to go another generation back! (We genealogists are never satisfied!) Here's a supposition that I need your help on........so if you have any records to substatiate my theory, please let me know........... In some MS legislature records was found the following.......... "To authorize Catherine GRAYSON, widow and administratrix of the estate of Reuben GRAYSON, late of Wayne County, to sell a certificate for a tract of land, being the southwest quarter of S36-T7-Rl7W, of the district of Pearl River. Said widow cannot make payment of the balance due for land without serious inconvenience to her or her orphan children. 5th sess., Nov. 1821, p. 9. " 1816 MS State Census.. Reuben Grayson 1 M 21 + 5 M -21 1 F 21+ 3 F -21 1819 MS State Census Reuben Grayson (no stats given in record I found) In the 1820 Wayne County, MS Census, there is listed: Katharine 2M -10 (b. ca 1810-1819) 1 M 10-15 (b. ca 1805-1810) 1 M 16-18 (b. 1802-1804) 2 F-10 (b. ca 1810-1819) 1 F 10-15 (b. ca 1805-1810) 1 F 18-25) b. 1795-1802 1 Foreign Born My SUPPOSITION? That Reuben Grayson and Catherine (unk), were the parents of CAMERON GRAYSON (b. 16 Feb 1810), CHESTERFIELD b. 1810-1811, GEORGE W. GRAYSON b. ca 1813, all of which were in Wayne and Clarke County. Both Cameron and Geo. W. named sons THOMAS, WILLIAM, JAMES, AND REUBEN. I haven't determined who the other children were, but the possibilites are SAMUEL b. 1797 and LEE b. 1800. My other wonder? Was the WILLIAM GRAYSON b. 1756 Culpepper Co, VA d. 1801 Montgomery Co., VA that married RACHEL COOLEY b. 1754 the parents of the above REUBEN? In the 1840 Clarke County Census there are a Nelson Cooley (20-30 years old) and Daniel Cooley (30-40 years old) listed on the same page as CAMERON GRAYSON. Coincidence?? I will also mention that in the 1850 Wayne Co. Census Cameron shows to be born in "Fin". It has always been assumed by me that it's a misread and should be TEN (as later Census' state), but thanks to Melissa, I had to rethink this as possibly being FINCASTLE. As you may or may not know Fincastle later became Montgomery Co. VA. And guess what? JOHN GRAYSON and BARBARY (UNK) lived there. And....they had children John Clan Grayson b. 9 Aug 1770 in Fincastle, d. 29 Jul 1826 Madison Co., AL....and another one of thier sons was WILLIAM GRAYSON that married RACHEL COOLEY. AM I REACHING??? Another coincidence??? 1) I have also discovered that GEORGE TEMPLETON and CHESTERFIELD GRAYSON were assignees on a couple land transactions to a JAMES VANCE. 2)There was a GEORGE TEMPLETON, ROBERT GRAYSON, AND LEWIS GRAYSON in the 7th Batt'n of Peter Perkins' Mississippi Militia during the War of 1812 (from the Mississippi Territory which later became Madison County). I have also found JAMES VANCE enumerated next to a CATHERINE GRAYSON in the 1820 Wayne MS census. 3) 0n 25 Nov 1812 The MS Territorial Legislature granted a charter for a boys school in Madison County. Among the first trustees.....Peter Perkins and JOHN GRAYSON. (John Clan Grayson). HELP! I'm going through information overload and I need your help to decipher all this. Can someone else out there tell me if they come to a different conclusion....or if their is evidence that would prove or disprove what I'm supposing? I could sure use your help! Thanks for taking the time to read this. Please answer to everyone I sent this to, so we can all decipher it together.
