Billy, My grandfather's brother, John Martin Harger was born 9 Jan 1840 in Clarke Co., MS to John Burl Harger and Clara Anderson Harger. About 1860 he married Eliza Pickens. John M. served in Company C of the MS 37th Infantry. Records from the MS Archives state that he was captured in Vicksburg on 4 July 1863; paroled 10 Dec 1863; exchanged 20 Dec 1863. Another form from the file is labeled "Register of Effects of Deceased Soldiers, turned over to Quartermasters, C.S.A." This form states "Receipt filed__, 1864, No. 4874, Amount $4.00." Family story says he was wounded in action and died from pneumonia. His burial place is unknown. His widow, Eliza Pickens Harger married P. P. Griffith on 2 Feb 1866 in Clarke Co. I hope you can create a place to honor those veterans of the Civil War from Clarke Co. who are not buried in the county. I appreciate what you and Bennie are doing. Erline Steed
