I really have not done anything with Simmons since my husband is dead and we did not have any children. My father was Lawrence I. Thompson, born in 1880--Shubuta. (Wonder what Shubuta means? Is it Indian?) His father was William J. Thompson. Don't know when they left the area since no 1890 census. They were in Covington Co., MS in 1900. I should have either come or gotten someone to search land records and tax records. That might have told me something. But guess I could get land records on line now? I have tried diligently but cannot make a breakthrough in the Thompsons. Too many William J's in AL. Hopefully, I am going to be able to get into a class in Feb. with DearMYRTLE (AOL). One session will be devoted to those impossible brickwalls! Of, course, I may not be able to get in. Class limited to 30--first come first admitted. Poor way to me when there was time for us to send our checks--then we could have been eliminated and slept late! My grandmother was Mary Caroline Mixon. There were several Mixons in Clarke Co. Believe they all lived in Shubuta area. Mary C's father was George Icabod. Perhaps he went by Icabod. My father's middle name was Icabod. Wonder if the Lawrence came from the Thompsons? There are some Mixons still in Clarke Co.--near Shubuta. Family Tree Maker told me Sadie Mixon and I are 5th cousins. Back down the way we share some grandfathers. The Mixons must have been quite clannish. Guess Thompson Simmons
GSimm Sadie is my cousin from my Stallings side. She lives on the same block as me. Shubuta means "smokey waters".
Jerry, one of my Aunts, Octavia Jones, married a Thomas Stallings. Do you have him in your line? Laurene "Jerry D. Mason" wrote: > GSimm > Sadie is my cousin from my Stallings side.
