While all this interesting banter on the Grayson, etc., is going on, will throw in my family "wants". John Bolton and wife, Lydia, were on the 1850 Clarke County census, age 63,with children, or grandchildren, Osborn ,21, and Elizabeth,19. Osborn and Elizabeth born in AL., Lydia and John, NC. Osborne Lockett Bolton married Nancy Risher., in Sumpter County,AL.There is also a John Franklin Bolton listed born in Sumpter,Al, 1839, son of Lydia and John Bolton, but place of their birth is listed TN. Living with John and Lydia in 1850 was Celestia Agnes Buffington, who in 1869, married J.W. Coats.Celestia was 4 when living with the Boltons. We think she was grand or gr-grandchild. Then we go to 1870 Clarke County census, and find James Bolton listed as Bolden, with children, married to Martha(Risher). Children were (not in order) Isabella, my gr-grandmother, Marietta, Henrietta ,James, Sallie, Martha and Eliot(female) Bolton. Prior to that on the 1850 Clarke County census, James Bolton and wife,Martha, both 20 , were on the Clarke County census, along with Susan, age one.Are you now totally confused? I am.Since brothers James and Osborne Bolton each married a Risher, you would think it would be easy to place Martha(Margaret)Risher. What I would like to know is, where did James Bolton,SR die, and also where did his wife die? My interest in this group is Isabella Bolton, who in 1880 married Harry Joseph O'Neil, in Clarke County. That was the last we heard of him, till briefly in 1918. We know Isabella died in Waynesboro, in 1943,and is buried in City cemetery, but the archives in Jackson have said they have no record. Isabella was the widow of Jackson Levi Hinson at the time of her death. If I can locate the state of death of the siblings of Isabella, I may be able to find more information on her parents. Her brother James, died in Mobile,Al., and his certificate says his mother was Margaret Risher, and father James Bolton,SR. Whew!! Now you know as much as I do.--Mary

Marion, I have been following the discussion about the Graysons and the Crosbys. My interest in the Graysons is that they married some of Isaac Moore's descendants. I. Henry Moore's daughter, Lizzie, married a William Grayson. Missouri Belle Moore (dau of Owen Moore) was married to Jack Grayson. The part that really drew my interest is the Crosby connection. In the old Moore Cemetery, there is a Mary Crosby, "70 yrs old" who died in 1910. The headstone was not visible when I visited there in 1992 or 93. In the 1910 census for Clarke Co, there was a W. W. Crosby age 60 and wife Mary Crosby age 70. With them is a Martha Moore age 50 (white) who was listed as a servant. In 1880, there was a W. M. Crosby (age unclear in my notes/ looks like 32) M.A. Crosby. He was born in MS and she in AL. There are 5 children listed. Do you have any knowlege of these Crosbys? I have put out queries in the Clarke Co. Tribune and have asked questions galore about the Moore Cemetery and those who are buried there. Nobody seems to have any knowlege of any of this. Okay, I've discovered some more clues, and I need help digesting it, and if anyone can fill in the blanks...................... 1) I NOW know that our JAMES C. GRAYSON was James CAMERON Grayson, son of Cameron Grayson and Sarah_______. (per James' death certificate filed with State of Mississippi). 2) CAMERON GRAYSON was listed in court records during the disposition of JOHN CROSBY SR's will, as married to SARAH, grand-daughter of John Crosby Sr. (With that said, it is not certain if her last name was CROSBY or not, but at this time I am going to say it is.) 3) Children of Cameron Crosby & Sarah Crosby......... Lavenia b. ca 1833 Thomas b. ca 1836 William (Bill) b. ca 1838 d. 1882 Reubin b. ca 1840 d. 16 Apr 1906 JAMES b. 25 Mar 1843 d. 10 Jan 1894 married Martha Carter Dallas b. ca 1846 Bruce b.18 Nov 1848 d. 4 Aug 1915 Eloiza b. 1849 (Listed in 1850 Census but not in Cam Family Bible) Samuel b. ca 1853 Edward b. ca 1857 Note: According to the 1850 and 1860 MS Census, SARAH's ages are different enough, and with the span of births between Eloiza and Samuel, I'm going to go out on a limb and say there were 2 Sarah's, (James C. Grayson's death certificate states "Mother's name unknown"....which is another reason to believe that if Sarah #1 died prior to 1853, James would have been less than 10 years old, which would lend credibility to not knowing her name) and then it is known that Cameron Grayson married Margaret Griffith. They were also both members of the East Pleasant Grove Church in Quitman, Clarke, MS. NOW......with all that said, you would think I'd be thrilled to have the above info and the proof of who our JAMES C. GRAYSON's family was. YOU'D THINK! But of course, now I'm ready to go another generation back! (We genealogists are never satisfied!) Here's a supposition that I need your help on........so if you have any records to substatiate my theory, please let me know........... In some MS legislature records was found the following.......... "To authorize Catherine GRAYSON, widow and administratrix of the estate of Reuben GRAYSON, late of Wayne County, to sell a certificate for a tract of land, being the southwest quarter of S36-T7-Rl7W, of the district of Pearl River. Said widow cannot make payment of the balance due for land without serious inconvenience to her or her orphan children. 5th sess., Nov. 1821, p. 9. " 1816 MS State Census.. Reuben Grayson 1 M 21 + 5 M -21 1 F 21+ 3 F -21 1819 MS State Census Reuben Grayson (no stats given in record I found) In the 1820 Wayne County, MS Census, there is listed: Katharine 2M -10 (b. ca 1810-1819) 1 M 10-15 (b. ca 1805-1810) 1 M 16-18 (b. 1802-1804) 2 F-10 (b. ca 1810-1819) 1 F 10-15 (b. ca 1805-1810) 1 F 18-25) b. 1795-1802 1 Foreign Born My SUPPOSITION? Both Cameron and Geo. W. named sons THOMAS, WILLIAM, JAMES, AND REUBEN. I haven't determined who the other children were, but the possibilites are SAMUEL b. 1797 and LEE b. 1800. My other wonder? Was the WILLIAM GRAYSON b. 1756 Culpepper Co, VA d. 1801 Montgomery Co., VA that married RACHEL COOLEY b. 1754 the parents of the above REUBEN? In the 1840 Clarke County Census there are a Nelson Cooley (20-30 years old) and Daniel Cooley (30-40 years old) listed on the same page as CAMERON GRAYSON. Coincidence?? I will also mention that in the 1850 Wayne Co. Census Cameron shows to be born in "Fin". It has always been assumed by me that it's a misread and should be TEN (as later Census' state), but thanks to Melissa, I had to rethink this as possibly being FINCASTLE. I have also found JAMES VANCE enumerated next to a CATHERINE GRAYSON in the 1820 Wayne MS census. 3) 0n 25 Nov 1812 The MS Territorial Legislature granted a charter for a boys school in Madison County. I received an e-mail to join the Family Discovery web site. Where their got my name and address from I don't know. I went to check it out, I am always looking for new places to see if I can find new information. You can't do anything with becoming a member for $49.95. Most paid subscription sites out there at least have some free stuff to look at, but not this one. I found another site called Kindred Konnections that in a search said it had information that I was looking for. So I paid a $5 fee for a 10 day try. What did I find, the same information that I found on the free sites. It ain't worth it. If this is the group that stole your stuff, go get him. Becky

Can anyone check and see if a Margaret Williams is buried in Clarke Co.bet. 1816 and 1850 Any info on this family living there? Ira may have went to TX. Don't have any info on other children except Francis R who went to Mobile Co AL. Was said he had a fight with a man from the community and "bit his ear off" which is why he left Clarke Co. Kathy, in searching for Civil War information and my wife's line of Williams, not your line. I ran across the following article from the Clarke Co. Tribune published about 1887. Ira Williams was in the 13th Miss Inf. Reg. In a letter to his wife Lizzie, he wrote of how things were in Vicksburg, MS. Later Ira was wounded in a Vicksburg battle . He was sent to Port Gipson, MS. were he died and is buried. The Trapp Williams family has this letter. I have not run across another Ira during this time period. Billy
This is what I found. There was no Elizabeth Dearman on thedisk. I did find the following; In Harrison,MS., Jacob Nicholas, m/ Mrs. Nancy Yates on April 16, 1868. Lucinda Nicholas m/ James E. Rawlings, Dec. 31, 1863 ,Laudesdale,MS. Jacob Nicholas m/ Mary Lindon, May 17, 1868, St. Louis,MO. The name has to be exactly as on the disk in order to come up, so I tried initials, etc.--Mary ----- Original Message ----- From: Creel <kendrick@datasync.com> To: <MSCLARKE-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Wednesday, September 20, 2000 2:44 PM Subject: CREEL > I am trying to find the marriage records of: > > Charles Woodbury Creel (d. Bennie, the first thing I do in the mornings is to check for mail from you informing us that you have found a solution. It is obvious you enjoy helping so many like me that cannot get to Mississippi to search. Believe me, I am forever indebted. Here's hoping it won't be long. God Bless Eula
