    2. Billy, my grandfather's brother, George W. Harger, served as a private in 37th MS Infantry, CSA. He participated in several major battles and, in the Battle of Resaca, GA, was wounded in the left upper chest. This wound never healed. He applied for a disabled verteran's pension, which was approved on 3 Sept 1900. He is buried in Elim Baptist Church Cemetery, Quitman, Clarke Co. MS. His grave is marked with a Confederate marker. George was born 22 Mar 1845 in Clarke Co; married Laura Roseanna Barry 27 Dec 1871 in Clarke Co.; died 22 Oct 1900 in Stonewall, Clarke Co. He and Roseanna had 12 children. George's parents were John Burl Harger and Clara Anderson Harger. John Burl was a blacksmith and property owner in Quitman. Erline

    2. Hi: I am Cynthia (Atkinson) Fowler. My great grand-father (X3), Hugh Adkinson (that is the spelling I have found on censuses) was an early settler of Clarke Co., MS. (1820's). His son, William A. Atkinson, was born and raised in Clarke County, MS, and he was a Civil War veteran. He enlisted in Meridian, MS, with the 6th Mississippi Calvary (I believe!) He is buried in Wayne County at the Atkinson-Covington cemetery. Thank you Cynthia Fowler cyncatf@aol.com

    3. Jean, I have gotten cemetery information from death records in the archives. I knew that my aunt was buried there but on her death certificate the cemetery is shown as Moore. If your ancestor died between 1912 and 1942 you can get a copy at the archives for less than .50 cents. You have to go there to get it but that beats $10.00 from the health dept. My aunt is a Young who was a teen ager when she died. I am not sure Dr. Moore is still living, but for years he maintained the cemetery. 3. I am trying to get up a list of where some of our Civil War Soldiers are buried in Clarke Co. If you had a Grand Pappy that fought, I would appreciate you sending me his Name--Unit he served if known-- where he is buried ---anything else about him. Even if he served in another State and is buried in Clarke Co. Thanks Billy

    3. Thanks Jack, I went to the Moore Cemetery in 1992 or 93. The only graves left are Isaac B. and Jane Moore. (By the way, when I arrived in Clarke Co., a young man--a Riley--who worked over at Clarko State Park was the person who directed me to the Moore Cemetery. He told me he was related to the Moores.) Who is your aunt who is buried there? Isaac and Jane's headstones are relatively new--probably replacements of the old originals. There were several other graves, including some Ivy's, when H.H. Daniels enumerated it back years earlier. I feel like it was the burial place of my g. grandmother, Louisa Moore. It would be the logical place since Louisa's husband had died and her parents took in her children after she died. That is why I so desperately would like for someone (possibly the Moores who still live in Clarke Co) to share any knowlege the people they know for sure were buried there. Surely someone somewhere knows! 3. Jean, I am originally from Clarke County and lived near the Moore Cemetery. My aunt died in 1918 and is buried outside the fence at Moore Cemetery. My grandparents were not able to afford to buy a space in the cemetery so they had to bury her outside the fence. The cemetery was located on the Moore place about 5 miles north of Quitman on highway (now 145) 45. For years it was kept up by Dr. Moore who lived in Meridain. Several years ago when I was there it was kinda grown up and you had to know where it was to find it. It is a small cemetery and was basically a family cemetery. I had given Bennie directions to it at one time but dont think he got around to recording the graves. Sorry I cant tell you who all is buried there but if you are interested I can give you more precise directions to it. 2. Here's my involvement with the Crosby's that I'm working on while in Meridian, MS. My Great Aunt Delilah (Lila) Skelton married William R. Crosby in 1899 in Clarke Co..l MS. They had three children. Gladys Crosby who married Buell Roscoe Carty, Marry Lou Crosby who married Addie Means, and J.W. Crosby who married a Ruth and they lived in Marion, MS. The first two lived in Lauderdale or Clarke Co. somewhere I believe All have passed on but I'm here digging to find their graves. I have no death dates except for Mary Lou Means who died Dec. 5, 1949 and for Wm. R. Crosby's death in 1943. From the city directories in Meridian, it appears that Ruth was a widow from J.W. about 1987 and I believe Delilah died in about the early 1950's. Can anyone relate to this family? shirleyga1@aol.com

    2. Jean, Thanks for your reply! Yes, the Graysons and Moores are intermarried, along with the Carters! That's what happens when you stay in one area for over 100 years! I have just started digging into the Crosby stuff, especially now that I know our James C. Grayson's father Cameron was married to a Crosby family member. I have to leave for a few hours, but in the interim I will tell you one of those small world things about those Crosbys! I live in Belton, Texas (Bell County). In the old Moore Cemetery, there is a Mary Crosby, "70 yrs old" who died in 1910. The headstone was not visible when I visited there in 1992 or 93. In the 1910 census for Clarke Co, there was a W. W.
