    1. Re: M.A. Grayson
    2. Thanks so much for your reply. I'm forwarding your message to the Clarke List, in hopes that someone can tell me who MARY ARABELLA GRAYSON's parents were. I think you're correct in that she was not Mary Hayes Grayson's daughter, based on birthdates. We'll keep in touch! Marion;) In a message dated 9/23/00 9:28:35 PM Central Daylight Time, dsddive@bellsouth.net writes: << Subj: M.A. Grayson Date: 9/23/00 9:28:35 PM Central Daylight Time From: dsddive@bellsouth.net (Deborah Denham) To: MGRAYSON98@aol.com I received your e-mail about Mary Grayson. I do not think the Mary Grayson that married A. P. Denham is the same Mary Grayson whose mother is Mary Hayes Grayson, unless the dates are wrong. Here is what I know about A.P. Denham's wife. M. A. Grayson was his 2nd wife (his first wife died.) Her full name was Mary Arabella Grayson & she was born Sept. 20, 1871 in Maxvill, MS. Mary & A.P. Denham were married in Clarke Co., MS on Oct. 27, 1894. The had 6 children that I know of. 1. Mary Arabella Denham, born 10/18/1896 & died 1/29/1968. She was called Mary Belle by the family. She married Percy H. Boykin. She is buried at Antioch Cemetery in Clarke Co., MS. 2. Susan Denham, born Feb, 1899 & died in 1980. She married Angus J. Bonner 3. Maudell Denham, born in 1905. I do not know anything else about her. 4. J.P. Denham, born Sept. 13, 1907 & died June 27, 1990. He is buried at Elam Baptist Church Cemetery. He married Mary Virginia Denham (maiden name unknown) & to my knowledge, she is still living. 5. Alma Denham, born Nov. 10, 1910 & died May 24, 1941. She married Earl Carroll. She is buried at Cedar Creek Church Cemetery in Clarke Co., MS. 6. There is another child who was either still born or died shortly after birth, who is buried at Cedar Creek Church Cemetery. I do not know if it was a boy or girl & the grave is only marked by a cement border. This grave is next to Mary A. Grayson's grave at Cedar Creek. I hope this helps. If I find any more info, I will pass it on. Mary Grayson was my father's stepgrandmother. I will ask if he knows anything about the Hayes'. Are you related to the Mary Grayson who married A.P. Denham? Look forward to hearing from you. Susie in Mobile, AL. >>

    2. I have 3 Civil War soldiers that had ties to Clarke and Wayne counties, they and another brother who survived and moved to Louisiana after the war, were all in the 8th Mississippi Infantry. Co. F. Hannibal Edmondson(Edmonson) David Edmondson(Edmonson) John Edmondson - survived Have never found anything on them after the war (both were killed in the war) and would like for those of you who visit cemetaries in the Clarke and Wayne County areas to keep an eye out for them. The enlisted at Shubuta. The family shows up on the 1866 Wayne county census, but land was bought in Clarke and Wayne Counties in 1859....so they could be anywhere!!!! Have checked all existing cemetary listings on-line that I could find, (both counties) and they are not there. I know there are more cemetaries yet to be transcribed - so I keep hoping! Beverly Casper, WY Researching the following lines: BIALI/BIALE, BORDELON, BREWER, BRUNELLE, CARBO, EDMONDSON, ETHERIDGE, LABORDE, LANDRY, LEEBURG, MASCARO, NORMAND/LENORMAND, PONS, ROBERTS, ROTJER, SHOEMAKE, TALTAVULL, TERRAL/TERRELL, WHATLEY ,WHITTINGTON, LOWE, HYATT.

    2. Okay, maybe not all of you will be be interested in this subject, but if you are, perhaps you can help. I have been communicating with Cil Dearman of Quitman, MS, who's grandfather's sister married Dallas Grayson. This would be Mary Hayes. D.G.GRAYSON (Dallas Grayson) married Mary E. Hayes on 28 Sept 1873 (per IGI and I believe Bennie White's page)! Dallas Grayson was the son of Cameron Grayson. Dallas and Mary had at least one daughter, Mary, born 1876, and was listed on the 1880 Clarke Co. Census with her grandparents, Israel and Louisa Hays. It's not known exactly when Mary Grayson was born, but she is listed as 4 years old. One would believe that it's quite possible that Mary Hayes Grayson died giving birth to Mary, as Dallas married 19 Dec 1876 to M.A. Stapleton. Then by 17 Oct 1888 (per MS marriage records, but according to pension records there is a discrepancy on this date) he is married to Lethia A. Blackman. Lethia would be his widow, as is indicated in Pension records: (per Bennie White's page) GRAYSON, D. G., age 57; Turner's Battery; 22 Aug 1901 GRAYSON, D. 2. Billy, My grandfather's brother, John Martin Harger was born 9 Jan 1840 in Clarke Co., MS to John Burl Harger and Clara Anderson Harger. About 1860 he married Eliza Pickens. John M. served in Company C of the MS 37th Infantry. Records from the MS Archives state that he was captured in Vicksburg on 4 July 1863; paroled 10 Dec 1863; exchanged 20 Dec 1863. Another form from the file is labeled "Register of Effects of Deceased Soldiers, turned over to Quartermasters, C.S.A." This form states "Receipt filed__, 1864, No. 4874, Amount $4.00." Family story says he was wounded in action and died from pneumonia. His burial place is unknown. His widow, Eliza Pickens Harger married P. P. Griffith on 2 Feb 1866 in Clarke Co. I hope you can create a place to honor those veterans of the Civil War from Clarke Co. who are not buried in the county. I appreciate what you and Bennie are doing. Erline Steed
