Kay, Bertha Carmicheal & Andrew Brewer are not in my data base but that doesn't mean they shouldn't be. I am going to forward this email to some other Brewer cousins so we can see if they may have them! Carolyn
I have a Bertha Carmichael who married Andrew Brewer. Is she in your database? Kay
What is your time period for Martha Carmichael Carmichael? The Archibald Carmichael who died after 1860 (there were two Archibalds in Co 1840s) became executor of one John Carmichael's estate 1852 - I haven't been able to find much on this John Carmichael. He may have been born c1823 AL, and he may be Archibald's son. On tax lists before 1850, on 1850 census and then died.

Patti, All Clarke County information has moved to e-groups. You can subscribe to be a member at: ClarkeCoMS-subscribe@egroups.com It's a great site, and if you have alot of folks to research in Clarke (or now, Lauderdale, Wayne, Jasper and Choctaw, AL) you'll love it. Also, I took a quick look to see, and there is a J.G. RIGDON on the 1860 Clarke Census. If that's the one you're looking for, he's there. Posted on: Clarke Co. Ms Queries Forum Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Ms/Clarke/282 Surname: BAILEY, PEEBLES ------------------------- I would like to announce that the Diary of Celia L. E. C. Peebles Bailey has now been posted on the Internet via the CHOCTAW COUNTY, MISSISSIPPI, USGENWEB SITE at the following address: http://www.rootsweb.com/~mschocta/celiapeeblesdiary.html Celia L. E. C. Peebles Bailey was the wife of William R. Bailey. Celia Peebles father was James Peebles, and her uncle was Alpha Peebles. William R. Bailey and Alpha Peebles were among the first of the pioneer settlers of Old Choctaw County. Celia Peebles Bailey, William R. Bailey, and Alpha Peebles are all buried at the Peebles Cemetery in present day Webster County, Mississippi. The PEEBLES CEMETERY roster and headstone photographs are also available for viewing via the WEBSTER COUNTY, MISSISSIPPI USGENWEB site at the following address: http://www.rootsweb.com/~mswebst2/peebles.html The PEEBLES FAMILY migrated from Guildford County, North Carolina to Mississippi. The BAILEY FAMILY migrated from Abbeville, South Carolina to Mississippi. Celia L. E. C. Peebles Baileys Diary was written in 1851 and offers a rare glimpse into the daily lives of our brave early pioneer ancestors who settled in Mississippi. The Diary also contains Trading Post Journal entries from 1835 forward. William R. Bailey and Celia Peebles Bailey owned and operated one of the first trading posts in Old Choctaw County that was located on their land grant just east of present day Stewart, Mississippi, in present day Montgomery County. Celia Peebles Baileys Diary was photographed and transcribed in 1979 by Mr. William Waylon Jacks. Celias Diary formed the basis of the early history of the Stewart, Mississippi area that Mr. Jacks documented in his important book, Stewart: A Town to Remember. I encourage all to read this important diary. Celia Peebles Bailey recorded and mentioned many of the names of the early pioneer families that settled in the area that eventually would become Stewart, Mississippi. Many of these pioneer families came from North Carolina and South Carolina. Many of these early families that settled in Choctaw County, Mississippi, eventually moved on to other counties in the state or to other areas in the south. I would like to personally thank the following people that made this publication of Celia L. E. C. Peebles Baileys Diary possible: Mildred Earline Wood Bailey, for retyping the original transcription by Mr. William Waylon Jacks. Gene Marie Grainer Bailey, for editing this edition of Mr. William Waylon Jacks transcription. Jackie Rhodes, for her encouragement and support and work to place this important manuscript on the Internet. And, most importantly, Mr. William Waylon Jacks, for his tireless dedication to the preservation of history, and, specifically, for finding and transcribing this Diary. Shortly after he finished his work on the transcription, the home of the owner of the diary, Mr. Claude Herard, a grandson of William R. and Celia Bailey, burned and the diary was lost forever. If it had not been for Mr. Jacks efforts, the earliest known history of our pioneer ancestors in this part of Mississippi would have been forever lost. Paula. I don't have any information to help you but I was interested in PRINE. My maternal grandmother was Mary Elizabeth Prine, b Jan/16/1863 and d Mar/4/1907. They lived where Rankin, Simpson, and Smith Counties meet. Think they lived in Rankin, but went to church in Smith and are buried in Smith. Guess Simmons

Ms Queries Forum Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Ms/Clarke/281 Surname: Pittman ------------------------- I am trying to find out information on my Grandfather Stephen Edward Pittman b. 2/5/1904? in MS. His father was Henry Edward Pittman. Henry married Sarah?. Their children were: Estelle, Ruth and Roderick. Henry's 2nd wife was Claudia Souiter? (full blooded Cherokee). Their children were: Victoria, James H., Stephen Edward, and Jessie(girl). The story I was told is that Claudia left Henry, took the kids and dropped all the kids at an Orphanage. My Grandfather Stephen Edward Pittman came to Webster Parish, LA in the early 1930's. The story I was told about him was that he killed someone and had to leave MS. They never talked about what happened and they never talked about his family he left behind in MS. If anyone can help, PLEASE email me at wilawalker@aol.com. I think that they are listed in the 1910 Clarke Co. census??? THANK YOU

Thanks for the tip JD---I know Choctaw AL, right across the state line, has a marvelous collection, but, that's them. Was just hoping the same would be true for Clarke Co!! I am looking for a P.G. Darwin and wife, Martha Cooper Darwin. He died Aug, 1869. Thanks so much for the info. L. Hill

Also if so, is there a place to write to request a lookup for a certain date of an obit? I am trying to find a 2nd great-grandfather who died in 1869 and his daughter who married in 1870. I live in TX, so personally searching is not possible. My library does not do inter-library loans. Thanks for any advice or help. Leslie Hill --part1_95.2783be4.272e33bc_boundary--
Good luck in trying to find newspapers from that time frame. But lots of the cemeteries around here have been recorded. Give the name and someone might be able to help you find the individual. til then... JD
