King. James & Josephine had 3 children: William born 1874-1879, Barton Leonidus 1877-1880, & a daughter Jesse born aft 1880. In 1880 they lived at Friar's Point Coahoma Co.,MS on the Mississippi River, by 1900 James Pritchard had died & Josephine had moved back to Vaiden, Carroll Co.,MS to live near her half-sister Tempe Taylor Bryant. Barton Leonidus Pritchard registered for the WWI draft in Carroll Co & gave his bd as 4/10/1877, which is consistent w/ the 1900 census. However in the 1880 census only son William is listed as 1 year old. I feel that someone else must have given the incorrect info for this family in 1880 & in 1900 Josephine King Pritchard gave the correct info herself. Would like to know what became of this family, also how Josephine King of Carroll Co.,MS met & married James Pritchard of Coahoma Co.,MS & gave his father's place of birth as Scotland & mother as Ireland. Thanks, Cindy

Before that Hiram and Rachel Thomas King lived in Lowndes where all but their youngest, born in Carroll County, were born. The children were Robert Clemon born 9-28-1840 married Mary Jane McCaskill Emily Jane born 3-15-1841 married Franklin Theophius Smith and later William Newton Moses John Tyler born 1-13-1844 married Mary Alice Edwards Floyd born April 1849 married Coraella Cagle Calvin Jones born 4-18-1851 married Alice Eugenia Johnson and later Emma Hurd Blackman William McKindred born 8-11-1853 married Lucy Johnson and later Mary Frances McCray Mary Elizabeth born 3-6-1859 married James Newton Moses and later William Henry White I believe the two Johnson women were sisters and the two Moses men were related. Most of the family lived in the Vaiden area but have seen references to some living in Blackhawk, Midway and Blackmonton. Emily died in Sunflower County, John died in Copiah County and Calvin died in Holmes County. Everyone else stayed in Carroll County with the possible exception of Floyd not sure where he died.

Hello - I am the granddaughter of Irene Vaughn Grantham Kuykendall. I have been slowly collecting info on the Grantham family. I believe Irene's mother was Evelyn Turner. I would love to have a copy of the article, just let me know what I need to do to get it. Thanks so much for offering to share this! Is anyone on the list connected to the TURNER surname? I have a newspaper article that may be of interest if one of your ancestors was born Laura Turner, July 24, 1866 in Carroll County. She married Jan 26, 1915 to Evander Grantham [his second marriage] who died in 1930. I have transcribed an article from the Clarksdale, MS Press Register dated Monday, July 16, 1956, titled "Two Widows of Confederate Veterans Are Among County's Oldest Citizens." The ladies are Malissa Almetta Carroll Cagle and Laura Turner Grantham, both living in Coahoma County in 1956. A copy of the article was provided me by Carnegie Library at Clarksdale some years ago. The quality is too poor to scan but I was able to transcribe. I would be happy to share this transcription with interested parties. Janie

Some of their children married and died in Carroll Co., MS. Wonder if someone might look at a 1840 to 1860 census index for Owen Carpenter and family? Also researching, Cecil Albert Chadwick, also thought to have lived in Carroll Co., MS. Thank you for any help. Debbie
