Sice I posted my first message about Joseph F. Smith I have gotten my genealogy on him. His father was from Germany and came to this country on a ship named the Johanna, and docked at Philadelphia. His father's name was Andreas Smidt. (He changed it later to Andrew Smith) He is buried with his wife in the Methodist Cemetery at Black Hawk, MS. The others that arrived to this country with him were: George age 25, Lewis, and Michael. My Andrew eventually setted in Tuscaloosa, Al. Look in the book Early Settlers or pioneers of Al. A George W. Smith is in there. I do not know if they are the same person. You will have to check census records etc.
