I notice in the 1840 census index there was a George G. "Tannehill." Can't find the family in the 1850 or 1860 census for Carroll, though they were there. A Nancy Touneyhill married in Carroll in 1841, and a Davis "Tanahill" married there in 1860. Part of the family, Jesse and Davis Tonahill, moved to DeSoto County, MS by 1870. Am trying to learn more about this family.

Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/yIB.2ACE/448.517.1.1.2.1.1 Message Board Post: Do you have the parentage of Nathaniel Carter who married Mary W. Bird Smith Dec. 7, 1847 in Carroll Co. MS? She had children Franklin Theophilus Smith, Mary Smith, Arabella Smith & Salina Smith at the time. After she & Nathaniel married she had one child, listed as Dan Tucker on the 1850 census, but apparently he changed his name to Jefferson Davis Carter from whom my husband was descended. Nathaniel had been married before to Eliza Matthews in 1838 and apparently before that to a Crawford & had 2 children by her: Warren Joseph born 1831 & John born 1833. They are all in the household of the 1850 Carroll Co. MS census, page 196, taken Aug. 31, 1850. Nathaniel died in 1857 in Carroll Co. MS, but apparently he has no marked grave.
