Hi, I am searching for church/cemetery death records for my gr gr grandmother, Bettie Guyton McMullen Jenkins Greer and her last husband, Simon Greer; this is an African American family who lived in Newport. Bettie was born about 1877 in MS and died sometime between 1947 and 1953 in MS; Simon was born about 1866 in MS and died about 1947 in MS. Both are supposedly buried in the New Banyon Church old cemetery. Does anyone have information about this church/cemetery? Based on oral history, Simon Greer was killed when his mule ran into a swarm of bees and stomped him to death. Were there any newspapers in publication during this time period that would have included obituaries for African Americans? Thank you, Dawnna
