    2. Robert B. Walters
    3. Hi Martha: Tfhe BLM/GLO records are complete, I believe, with respect to all patents that were issued covering lands located in Attala County, MIssissippi. Robert Walters, my great-grandfather, applied for patents whille he was living in Attala County, but the patents were not actually issued until he had already migrated to Texas. He and the Walters "clan" left Attala County in the summer of 1835, arriving in Texas in December of 1835, at which time the area now known as Texas was still part of Mexico. Patents were issued on the Mississippi lands in the name of Robert Walters, as follows: BLM (Bureau of Land Management) Records indicate that the following Patents were issued to Robert Walters on lands in Attala County, Mississippi: Document No. 15722 Serial No. MS 1140_.402 Issue Date: June 5, 1844 Acres: 80.34, described as the E 1/2 of SE 1/4 of Section 18, T14N, R7E. Docement No. 5473 Serial No. MS 0970_.113 Issue Date: February 1, 1841 Acres: 40.17, described as the N 1/2 of E 1/2 of NE 1/4 of Section 19, T14N, R7E Robert Walters also acquired the following patent on land in Holmes County, Mississippi: Document No. 15723 Serial No. MS 1140_.403 Issue Date: June 5, 1842 Acres: 84.98, described as the E 1/2 of NW 1/4 of Section 6, T15N, R5E. Holmes County is situated adjacent to Attala County on the west. The Big Black River is the boundary line between these two counties in this location. Please note that the above three land patents are the only patents acquired by Robert Walters on land in the State of Mississippi. As mentioned above, I believe Robert Walters made his home on the land described as being in Sections 18 and 19 of T14N, R7E. This is the Township in which the town of Kosciusko is located. You are correct Martha in that Attala County was created on December 23, 1833, from lands in the Choctaw Cession. I am interested in following the chain of title to the above described lands out of the patent and into successive owners. Since the courthouse in Kosciusco was destroyed by fire in 1858, and all records lost, I am just wondering if any records (or data) might have been kept in another place, covering title from patent date to 1858. Robert Walters was married when he was living in the area which became Attala and Yazoo Counties (1820-1835). His wife migrated with him to Texas, but we have never been able to determine her name, except to believe it is "Tubb". I doubt that I will ever find a marriage record, but I keep looking at every document I can find with the hope her name will show-up some place. It's nice corresponding with you; and, I want to thank you, Everette, and the others for the fine work you are doing in Attala County. Robert B.
