    3. Below is the response I just received from Kristi Robinson at MS College in reference to Attala County's Baptist Church(s) archives. If time permits, I will visit MS College in mid August. All findings will be submitted to this site. Doug ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- We would be glad for you to come and do this research. We have a file/on each Baptist Church in the state that contains various materials that someone has given us on them. The associational minutes will be the most helpful. They contain statistical information and pastor and other church officers names. For Attala County, we have the associational minutes beginning around the late 1850s or 1860s. Our hours are Monday-Friday, 8am - 4:30pm (closed from 12 noon to 1pm for lunch). Also, until the fall semester at Mississippi College begins (August 23rd), we close at lunch on Fridays. We look forward to your visit. --Kristi Robinson Kristi Robinson Mississippi College Special Collections Librarian Mississippi Baptist Historical Commission Box 4204 Clinton, MS 39058 [email protected] Commission Hours: Monday through Friday, 8 am -12 noon, 1-4:30 pm except for college holidays 601-925-3434

    3. Thank you for posting this message. When I was at the library, the use of their copy machine was avaliable for a minimal cost per copy. 3. Doug: This is great news. I've been told that my gggggrandfather, Uriah Barnett and his family, founded several churches in the central MS area. And.. I've been "looking" for this info for the past four years. Let me know when you are going to MS College and I might meet you there.... This is truly noteworthy...I found some info.on some of my other family in the Philadelphia library re: a Baptist church they attended in Neshoba County. They appeared to be devout and dedicated to the church until... they, and another family, were "excommunicated" because a teen-age member of both families "traded a horse on Sunday".. Those were evidenty the pformative days of the Primitive Baptists--where all the men wore beards and mostly dressed in black and the women sat together on the opposite side of the church from the men... I have an old photo of my ggggrandfather just like that... And, in some of his writings I have, he refers to "you" as "thou" and so on.... God Bless.
