Hi Attala County Researchers, Many of you are now aware that 'Beauvoir', the retirement home of Confederate President Jefferson Davis was heavily damaged by hurricane Katrina. The Presidential Library was also damaged, but both can be restored. Many of the other buildings on the site of the museum and library were totally destroyed and replicas will have to be built to restore the complex to its former glory. I have created a number of web pages with links to other web sites to give all with an interest in history and the heritage of the state of Mississippi an opportunity to view the damage. These web pages show, with graphic clarity, the damage that the Jefferson Davis estate sustained and they provide information on how you can help with the restoration project. The Mississippi Division, Sons of Confederate Veterans, the owner of the Jefferson Davis property is already at work with clean up operations, and will spearhead the efforts to restore or replace all of the buildings in the complex. They need your financial assistance if they are to be successful. The link to the pages described above can be found on the main page of the Attala County MSGenWeb site at rootsweb, in the box immediately below the drawing of the courthouse or, click on the link below to go directly to the web pages: http://www.rootsweb.com/~msattala/beauvoir-jeff-davis.html With hopes that this finds all of the ATTALA-L list subscribers well, safe and secure.
