My cousin donated his DNA to Ashley family project and we had a connection to a second Ashley DNA donator, however, we are not sure exactly where this other Ashley was connected as the research goes back only to 1879. I do know there are Ashleys in this county and am hoping some of you will be interested in joining the effort of connecting these Ashley lines. For more information on the lines tested so far, you can check the webpage at http://www.ashleyfamilies.vze.com/ the test can be a somewhat costly but if you have several researchers in your line, all could contribute a bit. You need only one donor descendant. This has to be a mail that carries the male surname as they are checking only the Y factor. FTDNA is offering a $30 gift certificate until Dec 31st, so a 25 maker test is $139.Go to http://www.familytreedna.com/giftcertydna.html I do hope some of you will find this worth your time and money. There are so many Ashley lines out there and some of them do not connect but I am hoping at least some of the Mississippi Ashley lines will connect to my Wilkinson county bunch. Virginian
Virginia, these ashley's in Attala are Papa John Ashley's. I do not know a male we can test. I would be happy to donate toward this if we can find a male Papa John Descendant. Thanks. I am familiar with that line but am not sure if it connects to my line. Virginia, I don't know if this will help you or not, here are a few Ashley's that had Attala County land dealings in 1800"s: Samuel H. Ashley 1841, lived near Plantation. John Ashley 1841, lived near Attalaville. Marchal Ashley 184, lived near Attalaville. Williamson Ashley 1855, lived near Attalaville These Ashley's are also listed as head of house in the 1860 Attala County census: John C. age 36, John age 72, Jesse and Williamson. It appears all were born in SC. Jesse Ashley married the widow, Mary Eakin, which had these youngn's by a prior marriage: Dock, Elizabeth and Lousia. Not too much DNA info, but interesting reading though. "Merry Christmas" and good DNA hunting, Doug
