As a followup/addition to the below msg request, these "Massey's" were found while searching the 1870 Attala County Census: Massey house-wholes found in the 1870 Attala County, MS census: Massey, Benson, age 19 is found in the house-whole of Wilbert Pope and was listed as a stepson. A., age 48, farmer " , Martha A., age 22 " , Alson D., age 17 " , Mary P., age 11 " , Joseph W., age 09 Massey, Wm J., age 28, farmer " , Mary, age 35 " , Thomas J., age 05 " , Benj., age 03 Massey, Thomas, age 17, farmer " , George, age 104 (Verified the entry as 104.) " , Cludie, age 13 Massey, Nancy, age 52, keeping house Massey, Ford, age 24 " , Tabitha, age 25 Massey, Thomas, age 20, farmer " , Deela Massey, Jno. H., age 26, farmer " , Nancy, age 20 " , Letha, age 02 " , Sephonia, age 10/12 Massey, Wm., age 23 " , Victoria, age 19 " , John R., age 6/12 John A. Massey, Private Company K, 40th MS Infantry, CSA. I am trying to locate Amanda Eastis, born in 1843 married Jonathan A. Massey in Jefferson County, AL.. They migated to MS afterwards and were found in Attala County during the 1860 census. Doug, Did you check the later census records for a different spelling, like "Massy" or "Massie"? Those are possibilities, since the census takers spelled phonetically (spelled by sound).
