    1. Attala County RootsWeb site Approaching a Milestone

    3. The Attala County Rootsweb Site is approaching a Milestone. Presently, we are within less than 200 hits of reaching the magic 100,000 visitor mark. The Attala Genealogy web site came into being in September 1996 when Tara Barrett, a researcher with Attala County connections, took on the responsibility of creating a web site for the benefit of those searching for ancestors in Attala County. Tara was the first volunteer County Coordinator for USGenWeb for Attala County, Mississippi. The next USGenWeb County Coordinator with responsibility for Attala County was David Frazier. David, who resides in Texas, was the County Coordinator from 1999 until January, 2001. I assumed responsibility for the Attala County web site in late January, 2001 and continue to serve in the capacity of volunteer County Coordinator for Attala County today. I reside in Pennsylvania, but Attala County is dear to my heart. In late January, 2001 the counter at the bottom of the main page of the Attala County web site read 42,059. Very shortly it will read: 100,000 If it were practical, I would organize a parade around the square in downtown Kosciusko. But that is not possible, so we will have to content ourselves with celebrating quietly in front of our respective computers knowing that technology has expanded greatly and with this new technology and the kindness of total strangers, we can search for our ancestors from the relative comfort of our homes. I would like to take this opportunity to recognize and applaud the efforts of Tara Barrett and David Frazier the two individuals that paved the way for all of us that are interested in the history and genealogy of Attala County, Mississippi. Their efforts made it possible for the Attala County MSGenWeb site to grow to what it is today. I have made a contribution, but that contribution is only made possible through the efforts of those researchers that are willing to share the information that they have been able to uncover. Documents, photographs, letters, files, wills, newspapers, land records, family genealogy. Yes all of this and more. So I would be remiss if I failed to acknowledge all of you that have contributed. Thank you, we could not do it without you. Keep your eye on the counter during the next few days and watch it roll over and good luck to all of you with your research.
