Go to main page: http://www.rootsweb.com/~msattala/ You will find the link just under the photograph of the courthouse (How ironic!) I was not online while I was recently moving and I missed the initial messages about preserving the Attala Co. records, the Star Herald, etc. Also, about writing a check to (my friend), Ann Breedlove. Can someone fill me in? Thanks. Pat Barnett Clayton

    3. Everette: I would like to post this. but want your approval first. PBC ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Thank you, Everette for the info. on the Attala Co. Criminal Court Records. I read all the posted messages and each one has validity.... However... For the folks who are considering "going up into the courthouse attic"... I say... "Go 'head on. I ain't goin' with you... Because I found out that--not only were old records kept there--but also old "evidence" of murders, etc... Case in point: Several summers ago I wanted to research certain older criminal cases for my book and was told by the Attala Clerk of Court's office that I could up go to the attic to search. But, I was also told that it was most likely over 100 degrees up there and they cautioned me that there was quite a bit of "physical evidence" stored there (that might disturb me)--as well as "rodents"... In addition, they told me that there were some newer files in a small room on the second (?) floor that might be useful to me. I opted for the second floor... (My husband was with me).. The files were in an old metal cabinet in a little alcove and I had to brush by a large cardboard box to get to them (like an appliance box). I couldn't find any file pertinent to my research, so we started to leave. Naturally, my curiousity got the best of me and I opened the top of the cardboard box. Inside was a 50 gallon drum with holes "chopped" in the sides and it was all "stained" up. I suddenly remembered re! ading about a murder that had happened in Attala Co. several months prior and how they had "found the victim" in a 50 gallon drum. So, folks, let me tell you--I let no dust settle under my feet getting out of there. As a matter of fact, I did verify with the County Clerk that was indeed "the barrel"... Nope, I'm not going "up to the attic"--or anyplace near it, but I'll be most happy to send money...
