Hello Mozelle, My great grandfather was John H. Massey bn 8/1/1856 Ms. d. 2/25/1910 in Miller Co., Ar. was married I think twice as the children on the census in 1900 Caddo Par., La. are too old to be his wife's at that time. She was Sarah Jane Burney bn in Attala Co. 1875, dau. of Berry Holland Burney and Delitha Viana McCool (third wife). Sarah Jane was about 11 when she married John according to the info a cousin found. I have a good bit on the Burney side back to Simon and Annis Green Mercer Burney but only to his father James Burney who died in La. about 1820 St Helena Parish, La. I thank you very much for all the help. I have no info on where or when the exact date of marriage for John and Sarah or a previous marriage for John. John's eldest daughter Ola married Jewel J. Harrington in Arkansas in 1911. Thank you, Anna

Re Mascedonia graveyard in northern Attala Co. I am looking for a listing of names of persons interred at the Mascedonia Cemetery.? I recall a census of names on the Attala Web page but have been unable to locate the listing. I am searching for the grave of James Sweatt b circa 1805 of NC / SC and his wife whom I believe may have been from Georgia.? He is the brother of the Rev. Nathan Sweatt.? Also, I have seen a reference to an area of Attala Co. which was at one time referred to as "little Georgia" because of the number of families from Georgia who first settled the area.? The corollary to the question "is the Macedonia cemetery in the area known as 'little Georgia'?" James Sims,? b Attala 1948 Sims, Rainey, Sweatt, Woods, Porter, Avant, et al
Try the spelling "Macedonia" Cemetery. You wrote, "... wish some one could tell me how to get a tree where I could get a print put; in a GED.com that I hear about". Regarding getting a tree where you can print and import/export GEDCOM, you need to have genealogy software on your computer. The better software might cost you between $40 and $100; however there are several genealogy programs that you can download free. The granddaddy of these is PAF which is the LDS software. Not flashy, but it does have a lot of report capability and GEDCOM support. It can be downloaded at http://www.familysearch.org/eng/default.asp There is a link on the right hand side of the page about half way down which says "Free PAF Family History Software". Click on the link that says "Download PAF", fill in the registration screen and follow the directions on screen from there. Family Tree Legends is also very good. It can be downloaded and installed free from: http://www.familytreelegends.com/downloads There should be a code/serial number on this page. Write it down before proceeding as you will need it to activate the software during installation. From there just follow the directions on screen as each page comes up. The most widely used is Family Tree Maker. You have to buy this one. The most current version is $39.95 (Family Tree Maker 2009), and the previous version is Family Tree Maker 16 which costs $29.95. Honestly, there isn't a whole lot of difference between them if you are new at using this kind of software. The differences are all in the higher level functions that a lot of people don't use anyway. You can order either version from the Ancestry.com website at: http://www.ancestry.com/ Click on the "Store" link at the top of the page. There is a list of products by type on the left side of the page. Scroll down to software, and click on Family Tree. That will take you to the page where you can purchase the software. I recently informed Ann Breedlove that I was receiving messages from numerous individuals inquiring about her and her situation. As you may recall, Ann's hours were cut in half (20 hours) by the library. This has made it difficult for Ann as her salary was cut in half as well. Ann reports that the library increased her hours to 28 per week and that she is in the library from 8:00 to 2:00 on Monday through Thurs., and from 8:00 to 12:00 on Friday. She says to "please tell my genealogy friends how very much I appreciate their asking about me. While I am still in pain because of a sprained ankle (the sprain occurred in April), I am no longer on crutches, so I'm much more mobile than I've been for the past several months. God has been very faithful to me during this time of being injured and then having my hours cut here at work." Ann goes on to state that she welcomes requests for research help. She wants to remind everyone that 'out of state' requests have to be done on her personal time, but she wants her friends to know that they can trust her not to run up a lot of hours, just to make additional money. She indicates that she will do what she has always done, try to give people the best information possible in the shortest time possible. Ann's address for request from individuals from 'out of state' seeking information is (e-mail address) AnnBreed7952@gmail.com. You can also reach her at: AttalaGenealogy@midmissregional.lib.ms.us. Ann says she will sort out the in-state from the out of state requests. Keep in mind that Mississippi residents can request research and there is no charge. Out of State researchers will have to pay a fee which goes directly to Ann and supplements her salary. She needs this additional income until she is once again a full-time library employee. It will not help Ann to send monies to the library or to support the genealogy room. While gifts to the genealogy room help support the libraries efforts to acquire new books, materials, etc., at the present, Ann needs our help more than the library. If you have reached a dead end with your research, give some thought to hiring Ann to assist you at a modest fee. In closing, Ann ask me to pass this along: "please relate my best regards to all of my good friends!" If you can help it would be generous and compassionate to do so. Hello Everette, I am Anna Massey Farris, you have probably seen my emails with requests for any info on Massey's and Burney's on the Rootsweb list. Anyway, my email is not to ask for info but to find out if you would like a copy of a marriage license from 1870 Attala Co. I have a copy of a Civil War Pension file for Berry Holland Burney son of Simon and Annis Mercer Burney; in that file is a copy of Berry Holland and Delitha Viana McCool's marriage license. I can scan it and send it to you to put on the county website. I have searched for many years for info on my fathers family, I am sure they were from Attala Co. my way of Simon and Annis but more than that I have not found. So if I can help someone else find family with this info then maybe I can find some of mine. Always, Anna
Hi Charles, My great grandfather was married to Bettie Crosby 1st - my great grandmother was his 2nd wife. So I haven't really explored the Crosby connection since she's not part of my blood line. I know my cousin Alton has done more on that line since he's a descendant of J.Z.
