If the obit you receive from Ellen is not too long, I would very much appreciate your emailing its text to me, June. As for James first wife, "Unknown Walker," if it is any consolation, during 1999-2003, I had quite a bit of correspondence with James Truett SMITH of Jackson, MS, in which he shared his own knowledge of the SMITH line of descendancy and life in Rocky Point with me. James Truett SMITH (1914-2003) was Augustus Milton SMITH's son by Cornelia HAND and grandson of Hugh Walker SMITH. As far as I know, Truett's wife, Madeira still resid es in Jackson. In reviewing my correspondence with James Truett Smith, he shared much about his knowledge of old Rocky Point and those who lived there in times now long gone, but I note that he, also, only referred to his great grandfather's wife as "Unknown WALKER," adding that she was born in Ireland between 1800-1810. In "Guess - Guess History and Lineage In America," compiled by Alta Louise Biggs Martin, she includes mention of "Some Smith History" on pages 138-139. I notice that Ms. Martin, despite the thoroughness of her own research, also refers to James SMITH's wife as "______ WALKER." So, I would say if Ellen Pettit has no clue as to who "Unknown WALKER" was, tracking her down might be a search some of us have no time to pursue. Should you ever come by that information, I sure would like to learn who she was, June. Don't hesitate to send any more questions on the SMITHs to me as I might be able to be of more help to you in the future on other aspects of their lives. Liz, for a number of years, I have been trying to identify a man by the name of Jim Simmons. He was born in VA about 1824-25, moved to Attala County, MS between 1840-1850, where he appears in the 1850 census as a single man, living alone. He was killed by a man whose name was Jim KELLY in a knife fight in Rocky Point, Attala County, MS on 29 June, 1851. Does any of this ring a Simmons bell with you, Liz? Have you a Jim Simmons that seems to have just fallen between the cracks about mid-1851? At 11:58 AM 2/26/2009, you wrote: > >Hello, everyone. > >I am new here. It has a chapter dealing with reconstruction in Attala County after the Civil War. It was published in 1909. It is pretty interesting reading. If you have not seen this and would like a copy of that chapter please let me know. I found it to be interesting reading as far as history goes. It gives some interesting insight into the relationship between former slaves and their owners after the war. It also mentions some of the prominent people in the county at the time. Hi Ellen. You sent this note out under your earthlink.net address, but you say you have a new address that is hughes.net? Will the hughes.net address soon replace the earthlink.net address? Which one should be used now? Dennis At 06:56 AM 2/26/2009, you wrote: >Hi June......I do have a copy of Hugh W.
