Future useful research tool for Attala County researchers, read on.... Dan Lawyer has written a short article in the FamilySearch Labs blog that gives a quick preview of what I believe will be a revolutionary new tool for genealogists. Dan writes: FamilySearch Alpha is the beginning of a great new world. The purpose of the project is to replace the current www.FamilySearch.org website with a new site at the same address that integrates all of the new technologies and record sets we’ve been working on (like Record Search, Family Tree, Research Wiki, etc.) into one easy to use experience. You can read the full article and some readers' comments at http://labs.familysearch.org/blog/?p=110.
Charles, Red Water reservation is located where Hwy 25 intersects with Hwy 35 S at Carthage. It extends back towards Kosciusko on Hwy 35 about 2 miles probably and ends just past the Hwy 25 intersection. There is a more modern school located near Hwy 35 now. The tribal members who live in the area have mobile homes and some houses. You could probably contact the Tribal Offices at Choctaw, MS to find out exactly where that old school stood. They might be interested in a copy of your picture also. Can I ask who is in the picture? Does anyone know who maintains the Blumenburg Cemetery, also known as White Cemetery, in McCool, Attala County, MS? It is mowed and looks somewhat taken care of. Thanks Colleen
Colleen, Mt. Pilgrim is located in McCool, but I found no Knox tombstones there. A few miles south of McCool Bloomingburg [or Blumingburg] Cemetery has mostly black burials and some Know tombstones. {KNOX, Peter 1854 – 1949 {KNOX, Mary 1853 – 1950 KNOX, P. P. Died June 5, 1942 – Age 88, 3 Mos. {KNOX, Steve 1872 – 1959 {KNOX, Susie H. Died 1958 While none of these are Buster, there are some stones illegible, broken, etc. Does your death certificate indicate the name of the funeral home? Perhaps they still are in operation and could give you the cemetery name. Someone on the list may know of other black cemeteries in the area.
