It is no wonder that they are using our site for research. It is one of the best developed and organized county sites available on the web. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Everette Carr" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Friday, April 02, 2004 4:20 PM Subject: [MSATTALA] Fw: Re WPA Project Sallis, Mississippi > Attala County Researchers, > > You will note from the message I received below that even the Mississippi > Dept of Archives and History uses the Attala County web site for its > research. > > Everette Carr > County Coordinator > Attala County MSGenWeb > > ----- Original Message ----- > From: "Richard Cawthon" <[email protected]> > To: <[email protected]> > Sent: Friday, April 02, 2004 4:33 PM > Subject: Re WPA Project Sallis, Mississippi > > > I was interested to see the photo of the WPA project at Sallis, > Mississippi, on your web site. I had found this site yesterday and wanted to share it, I found it very helpful with locating dates, places and facts in the south east and north eastern U.S. http://www.genealogyinc.com/maps/uscm.htm Jim
Thanks, Martha. I had wondered if Breckenridge was a surname or middle name. Also, I always had John Calvin Gunter as "Joe C. Gunter". Are they the same person? Gigi Tanksley has been busy, out there in Attala County copying information off tombstones. Two additional cemeteries have been posted which were submitted by Gigi; the Bluff Springs Cemetery which is also known as the Cummins Cemetery and the Hurricane Baptist Church Cemetery. You can view these cemeteries by going to the cemetery listing and then select the cemetery you are interested in. Please keep in mind that all cemeteries are listed but only those with a 'YES' or the word "Partial" in the 'Posted' column are actually posted to the web site. We are making progress, but such a long way to go. Enjoy! Everette Carr
I will be out of the office starting 03/27/2004 and will not return until 04/12/2004. I will respond to your message when I return. If you need immediate attention please contact Alison Williams.
Yes, Gigi, Thanks. One correction. The L. Heckenridge Gunter should be L. Breckenridge Gunter. She was Lura Breckenridge England before her marriage to John Calvin Gunter. An up to date, current listing of the Coleman Cemetery south of McAdams, Mississippi in Attala County has been submitted to the Attala County web site (MSGenWeb) by Gigi Tanksley. If you have ancestors buried in the Coleman Cemetery, you will surely want to view the cemetery listing that Gigi has copied, transcribed and submitted for inclusion on the Attala County web site. Everette, The death date for Tucker Larry Glenn should be 31 May 1948. Can anyone give me driving direction to the New Hope Lutheran Church and Cemetery in Sallis from Kosciusko? A Derrick researcher will be visiting Attala Co. sometime next week, (he is from S.C.), and wants to see the church and cemetery. Thanks, Wanda
Well, yes and no! All of the white cemeteries in Attala County are listed in the index in alphabetical order. But, as you know, only a very few have been copied by a few diligent Attala County researchers. Those that have been copied or partially copied would have newer information (later burials) than would be found in the cemetery book. But the vast majority of the cemeteries in Attala County have not been copied since the cemetery book was published in 1988. Actually, most of the cemeteries in the cemetery book were copied in the late 1950's, almost fifty years ago and thirty years before the book was published. Are all the recorded cemeteries in Attala Co. listed on the Attala Co. page?? if so I have gone thru them in hopes of finding WINGATE. also my cousin was in Miss. and failed to find anything about a burial site for our WINGATE. again, thanks for your reply. Thanks Janie, I don't think these are mine. I will save them just in case. do appreciate your time. Carlene
Hi all, I called Eddie Fenwick who is a nephew of the Mrs. Fenwick who wrote the cemetery book. I am hoping he will give written permission to post the information. I was unable to speak with him but his secretary was very helpful. She said she would see what she could work out for us and get back in touch with me. Gigi
Carlene, What Wanda failed to mention was that there are not any marked graves for the surname WINGATE listed in the "Attala County Mississippi Cemeteries" book other than the one she mentioned below which is as indicated in Carroll County. Carlene, I have the Carroll County Book and found the following entries in Old Plank Cemetery: Frances Rosalie Colton Wingate, Alma Ina Wingate, Bessie L. Wingate. The last two are daughters of Frances Colton Wingate, wife of F. M. Wingate. If these are of your Wingate family, I will be glad to send dates. Janie
I have Carroll County Cemeteries and find indexed: Alma Ina, Bessie L., F. M., F. R., Frances Rosalie Cotton.
