My cousin donated his DNA to Ashley family project and we had a connection to a second Ashley DNA donator, however, we are not sure exactly where this other Ashley was connected as the research goes back only to 1879. I do know there are Ashleys in this county and am hoping some of you will be interested in joining the effort of connecting these Ashley lines. For more information on the lines tested so far, you can check the webpage at http://www.ashleyfamilies.vze.com/ the test can be a somewhat costly but if you have several researchers in your line, all could contribute a bit. You need only one donor descendant. This has to be a mail that carries the male surname as they are checking only the Y factor. FTDNA is offering a $30 gift certificate until Dec 31st, so a 25 maker test is $139.Go to http://www.familytreedna.com/giftcertydna.html I do hope some of you will find this worth your time and money. There are so many Ashley lines out there and some of them do not connect but I am hoping at least some of the Mississippi Ashley lines will connect to my Wilkinson county bunch. Virginian

Ed, I am not aware of any effort underway to recopy the Parkway Cemetery. Sorry! December 12, 2005 - Ten photographs taken in the Kosciusko City Cemetery have been posted to the 'Churches and Cemetery' section of the Attala County MSGenWeb site. Additionally, a photograph of the tombstone of Laura V. Mitchell Kelly, wife of C. Clay Kelly, has also been added along with background information on the statue that adorns the stone and includes some genealogical information on the Kelly family. There is a story going around that a statue in the cemetery weeps tears and that on her wedding anniversary, a rose appears clutched in her hand. That was the neatest poem and I envy the Mother who recieved the poem. Not many of us are so fortunate. Marilyn
"Why not make her path grow brighter By a kind word now and then? Why not make the burden lighter? Tell her how good she has been! When she's gone, 'twill be too late To express your love sincere, Let her know how much you love her- Why not thank her while she's here?" "This is the last stanza of the poem, "A Living Mother" by Dorothy (Yokum) Purtle which is posted to the Attala County web site. It can be found here: http://www.rootsweb.com/~msattala/alivingmother.html With Thanksgiving coming soon I thought I would take a moment to remind those that are fortunate enough to have a living mother that Thanksgiving would be a good time to let her know how much she is appreciated. Don't wait for "when she's gone, 'twill be too late." Everette Carr

Everette: I really appreciate your sharing this with me. I grew up 30 miles from Moorhead and a friend and I whose family is from Moorhead appreciate this history. My grandfather was the Fire Marshall at Moorhead "back in the dark ages" Thanks Wanda -----Original Message----- From: Everette Carr [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: Wednesday, June 08, 2005 10:07 AM To: [email protected] Subject: RE: [MISSISSIPPI] new Moorhead, MS list The Yazoo Delta existed only from 1897 to 1901 when the Yazoo & Miss Valley acquired it. The Yazoo Delta was a shortline with trackage of only a little over 20 miles and originally ran between Morehead and Ruleville. The blues songs referring to the "Yellow Dog" were written and sung in the 1920's and 30's, long after the Yazoo Delta's demise. Some report that the reference to the "Yellow Dog" is from the "Y. D" for Yazoo Delta that appeared on the tenders of the railroad. But the Yazoo & Miss Valley was also known as the "Yellow Dog" in later years and the Yazoo & Miss Valley existed 13 years before the Yazoo Delta and outlasted it by many years. So it is believed that the reference was to the Yazoo & Miss Valley that ran between Jackson and Yazoo. Simply stated, the origin is not known with any certainty. A good site that analizes the origin of the "Yellow Dog" can be found here: http://www.earlyblues.com/Yellow%20Dog.htm There are also some photos of the railroad sites on this web page including the crossing at Morehead, the Yazoo station and a steam locomotive. LaNelle, That was quite a bit of information that you posted for Helen Napier. Chances are she would rather not have this much information displayed on a mailing list, although I appreciate one might be able to obtain similar information from the phone book. On the marriage records at the Attala Co genweb site, it says that *MRS* Effie Robinson married WP Keith on 10/22/1902. Searching further, I find a Miss Effie Beach married a JD Robinson 10/12/1897. I did not find them on the 1900 census Attala Co. I did find Effie and Will Keith(misspelled as Will HUTH on the index) in 1910 Attala Co Bt 2. Effie is 18 and states married twice and married for 8 yrs. Will is 26 married once and they have 3 children: Jessie 6, Ada 3, and Charlie 1yr 3?months. There is a George Beach also in Bt 2 1910 several pages over, who is probably her father. I am thinking WP Keith is son of Argill C Keith as he is listed next door to him on the 1920 census after the death of Effie. Unfortunately, the only info I have on this couple is as follows: Index to Attala Marriage Records W. P Keith and Effie Robertson 1902 Bk I, pg 251 ( I would say their ages were probably about 20 when they married) Attala County Cemetery book shows: Bowlin Cemetery pg 30 N. P. Keith "Daddy" no dates ( believe the N should be a W) Effie Keith "Mother" no dates A Place Called Sallis shows: Bowlin Cemetery Keith, Effie (mother) no other markings pg 337 Keith, W. P (Daddy) no other markings pg 338 If available, I would also like a bit of info on a Baseal C. Keith who is age 22 on the 1880 Neshoba Co, Ms census --- Any help appreciated. June
