I am the great-great granddaughter of a Hannah McMorris who left Amite or Pike County for New Orleans around 1886. Hannah's mother's name was Mariah-- possibly also spelled Moriah or Maria. I am not certain if Hannah got her surname from her mother or her father-- also likely born a slave. Likewise, I am interested in any family papers from Alexander McMorris Jr. of Bogue Chitto or any related family papers that may contain bills of sale or inheritance, tax records or other records that may state the names and origins of his slaves.
