Mixon. He was born April 29th 1826 and died on January 27th 1909, lacking two days of being 82 years and 9 months of age. When I was about five years of age, I distinctly remember when he went to his first school at the old Taylor house with his two older brothers. Obed T. and Charles G. and his oldest sister, Miss Martha Ann to Mr. Bryant Shields. They passed through our yard, going and returning from the school. Three of my oldest sisters and my oldest brother went to the same school. I went to two schools with him later on. One was taught by Mr. John W. Miller and the other by Mr. John H Lenoir. From our early boyhood to the day of his death he has been one of our neighbors. He was married to Miss Malissie R Guy, daughter of the late William Guy, on March 28th 1856. They raised a family of four children, three sons and one daughter. Milliard F., James T., John J. and Mary Magdaline. The youngest son, John, died December 1st 1899 and the daughter, the wife of Mr. George Newman, being the youngest child, died on June 18, 1901. Brother Mixon joined the Methodist E. Church South in September 1858 under the pastorate of the Rev. Allen Casselz, and lived a consistent member of the church ever willing to assist in support of the institution of the church, to the day of his death. He was a successful farmer, a good provider for his family, liberal-hearted kind and cheerful. He deeded a portion of his lands to each one of his sons and also to his daughter when they married. His disconsolate companions, two sons and quite a number of grandchildren and many other relatives survive to mourn their loss; who do not mourn are those who have no hope. He was a member of Capt. Morgan’s Company in the 33rd Regiment, Mississippi volunteers and saw some hard marching and some fighting, till sometime after the fighting on the Deer Creek. After which time his health begun to fail and he saw no more service. He was crippled in one of his hips by a fall in his early life from which he never fully recovered. He served his day and generations well. Gone but not forgotten. Few men or women would be more sadly missed in this neighborhood than he is. I, with our families and many other relatives and friends hereby extend to the bereaved ones our sincere and heartfelt sympathy and condolence. J. N. Spinks and all the family Written by a friend and neighbor on lined paper and glued to the inside front cover of the Edwin B Mixon family Bible. ===================================================================================== ===================================================================================== MILLARD JOHN MIXON and WILLIE SMARR WEBB BIBLE MILLARD JOHN MIXON and WILLIE SMARR WEBB were married at her parents home, MR and MRS W S WEBB on the 24th of May, 1914 BIRTHS WILLIE SMARR WEBB MIXON born July 17, 1895 MILLARD JOHN MIXON born March 5, 1892 MARGUERITE ONIDA MIXON born May 9, 1919 SAMUEL MIXON BENIGNO born Oct. 6, 1951 DEATHS MILLARD JOHN MIXON died ?
