I am even more curious now. My grandmother claimed to me, when I was 12 or 13, that HER gg grandmother was the daughter of a Native American chief. She said Cherokee, but we have been unable to make that connection. There are other family surnames, and I don't know WHICH gg grandmother she had "heard" or thought this relates to.
