    1. Re: [MSAMITE] Mary White filing will in 1817 in Amite county, Ms connection to NC
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: datokok Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.mississippi.counties.amite/1217.1.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: I would like to furnish the following which may serve to assist in a more firm connection of the White family in early Amite county, Ms. to the Tarver family in Amite county, Ms. and which may lead to a connection back into Northampton county, NC to Old James Tarver who left his will there in 1775 which was probated in 1777. Setting out again a few facts from Northampton county, NC and Barnwell county, SC: 1) James Tarver will probated 1777 was witnessed by Joshua White and Mary White. 2) a Mary White mentioned in the will of Billison Seat as his daughter. Billison Seat's will probated in 1786 in NHT county, NC 3)The following White's are shown on the 1790 Northampton county, NC county census: John White 3M 16 and up 1F 9 slaves Joshua White 1M 16 and up 1M to 16 1F Davis White 1M 16 and up 2 F 4 slaves I only have the 1800 NHT county census for the Tarvers...It would be helpful if it can be determined if any White's are shown on the 1800 or 1810 Northampton County(NHT) censuses 4)The following White's are shown on the 1800 Barnwell county, SC census: Pg. 47A James White 3M 1790 to 1800 1M 1755 to 1774 2F 1755 to 1774 William White (right next to James White H/H) 1M 1774 to 1784 1F 1790 to 1800 1F 1774 to 1784 pg. 50A Mary White 3M 1774 to 1784 4F 1784 to 1790 1F 1755 or before 4 slaves ??? Low and Thomas Low on same page I believe this Mary White is the same Mary White who settled in Amite county, MS in about 1810 to 1814. The White's Campground on the east prong of the Amite river was established in 1814. White, Tarver, Lowe, Felder, Adams, and Campbell were all early Methodist families in this area as per early records for Southwest Amite county, Ms. The Adams families are said to have belonged to similar type campgrounds existing in southwest Barnwell county, SC as was eventually established by the White family in Amite county, MS in 1814 It is not clear what happened to John White--It may be coincidence, but John White is shown on the Northampton county, NC census for 1790 and not shown on the Barnwell county, SC census for 1800 where Mary White and James White and William White are residing at that time. He may have died sometime between 1790 and 1800 or so. This may serve to connect the John and Mary back to NHT, particularly, if it can be determined that John White was not in NHT as per the 1800/1810 NHT county censuses. Or it may be that the John White on the 1790 NHT county, NC census is not the husband of Mary White shown on the 1800 Barnwell county, SC census. It is difficult to make the 1790 NHT county, NC comparison of the H/H of John White to the 1800 Barnwell county, SC H/H of Mary White. There are more individuals in the 1800 H/H of Mary White than shown in the H/H of John White in NHT county, NC based upon various ages represented in both censuses. Not sure about this comparison. A couple of other citations which seems to support a connection of the White's to the Tarvers: a)Thomas Tarver b. abt. 1805, was a son of Benjamin Tarver. Benjamin Tarver, I feel migrated out of Barnwell county, SC (he is shown on the 1800 Barnwell county,SC census)This Thomas Tarver married Rebecca White, the widow of William White Dec. 1827. William White's will was offered for probate and Rebecca White was guardian of the minor children: William White, John White, Mary White and Eliza Ann White. Rebecca was born about 1806 in Ms. b) 1820 Amite county, Ms. census --Whites and Tarvers very near each other as follows: not right next to one another, but all on pg. 32 except as noted Jenkins Tarver John Adams John Obier James White 1M 45 and over, 1 M 16 to 26, no females Burketh Thompson Joseph Adams Alford White (Alfred)2M 0-10, 4M 16-26, 1M 26-45, 1M over 45, 3F 0-10, 1F 16-26, 1F over 45 Henry Flowers Allen Tarver John Campbell Benjamin Tarver(page--34) The connection of these Whites back to Old James Tarver in NHT county, NC is somewhat difficult to make with absolute certainty. However, based upon the above citations and those stated previously, it appears there must be some connection. You mention Elizabeth White Kennon and then Elizabeth White Woodson as the daughter of John and Mary White of NC. Is the Woodson the first husband of this Elizabeth? One snag to the connection to John White in Northampton county, NC is that this Elizabeth b. est. 1783 is not reflected in the household of John White as shown by the 1790 NHT county, NC census which only shows 1 female and this is presumed to be his wife. Also, are there any clues in the will of Mary White such as witnesses or any other names which may provide some clues to a connection back into NHT county, NC families? It is understood that the connection of Mary White to John White shown on the NHT county, NC 1790 census is at best circumstantial at this point. However, maybe it can be strengthened or eliminated based upon ensuing discussion. Thanks for your reply. Cordially, David A.
