Author: datokok Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.mississippi.counties.amite/1217/mb.ashx Message Board Post: I noticed in a post by masjml Aug. 24, 2009 that Mary White who died in Amite county, Ms in about 1817 had a daughter, Elizabeth White Kennon who was born in North Carolina March 16, 1783 and this Elizabeth was the daughter of John and Mary White. The Mary White connection to NC may be that occurring in Northampton county, NC in about 1780 to 1790 as on the 1790 Northampton county, NC census there were found, Davis White, John White, and Joshua White. I believe, maybe John White could be the husband of Mary White. It seems these Whites moved from Northampton county, NC to Barnwell county, SC then into southern Mississippi to Amite county. Further, a Mary White is mentioned in the will of Billison Seat which was probated in 1786 in Northampton county, NC. Another daughter of Billison Seat, Lucy Seat, married James Tarver mentioned herein. I am trying to connect these Whites to James Tarver who resided in Northampton county, NC and filed a will there in 1775. His will was witnessed by Joshua White and Mary White. If I can connect these Whites to James Tarver and his son, Thomas Tarver, who may be the Thomas Tarver residing in Barnwell county, SC and is on the 1800 Barwell county, Sc census; it may lead to verification that this Thomas Tarver was in fact the Thomas Tarver who left Northampton county, NC at a time near that of the Whites and migrated to Barnwell county, Sc arriving there sometime around 1784. There are several Whites in Barnwell county, SC about 1800 or so who eventually migrated on down into Amite county, MS arriving there in the early 1800's. The Tarvers and Whites were families mentioned in Amite county, Ms. records who located on the Amite river and who were involved in the Methodist ministry and were friendly to persons in that area as early as about 1814 in Amite county, Ms. I am not sure of the age of Mary White at the date of her death in Amite county in about 1817. James Tarver was born about 1720 or so and his son Thomas Tarver born about 1750 or so. Another son of James Tarver, namely, James Tarver, Jr. had a son, James Tarver III who moved into Lawrence county, MS arriving there sometime around 1810-1815. I am not sure if John White shown on the 1790 Northampton county, NC census was a Methodist minister or not, but the Whites were in some way connected to the ministry. And if Mary White who was in Amite county and died there about 1817 was involved in the minstry, there may be a connection back to Northampton county, NC. Any assistance/discussion in tying Mary White who died in Amite county, MS about 1817 and/or her family members to Northampton county, NC and to James Tarver and his son Thomas Tarver would be greatly appreciated. Cordially, David A. Tarver Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
