William I. Harrell does not appear with any regiment from Amite County that I can locate. There are two men, however, who were in the 44th Mississippi that did have connections to Amite County. William J. harrell Co. I 44th Miss. and William T. Harrell Co. I 44th Miss. "I" is often transcribed as "J" and it is also possible that it is transcribed as "T" Co. K 44th Miss. was raised in Amite County and there wer many Harrell's there. Company I was raised in Alabama, but that does not preclude his being born in Mississippi and jopining when the regiment was already with the army. Try searching: "Mississippi in the Civil War Message board." Give them hias information and someone can identify him. Also check out the 7th Mississippi page [1]www.7miss.org. I found him in the 25th Texas Cav. , he enlisted 23 June 1862. It appears that his Father, William L. Harrell took the whole Family and went to Texas in the 1850's. Dewey J.
