Also, the person submitting this query is probably NOT subscribed to the mail list (yet). ==== PLEASE DIRECT ANY RESPONSE TO THE ADDRESS BELOW: Sue Lester <[email protected]> Day I am trying to find any information on Samuel Day, bn abt 1860 in Amite County, MS to Marshall and Nancy Day. His brother is Robert Hampton Day. I believe that Marshall died from wounds in the Civil War. I am trying to find where the two boys were in 1870. Sam (my great grandfather) married Martha Bain in Cass County, Texas in 1883. My grandmother (their only child who lived) was born in Upshur County, Texas around 1888. I have no idea what happened to Sam. Martha is listed as a widow in the 1900 census and is living with her father and mother. Author: sueseverson Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.mississippi.counties.amite/50.2.1.1.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: I too am a descendant of Ellis Spillman through his son Louis Richard "Dickie" Spillman and his wife Elizabeth C. Wilson, then through John Louis Spillman, his daughter Clara Spillman (my grandmother) and finally Clara's daughter Dorothy Shuckrow, my mother. I have researched Elizabeth C. Wilson extensively, and while I have no absolute proof, have concluded with a very high degree of confidence that Elizabeth was not married before her Spillman marriage. Castina was very likely born out of wedlock (see records of Eastfork Baptist Church) and Elizabeth was the daughter of Arak Wilson and Eliza Everett. The old family story was that Elizabeth's maiden name was Ferguson, but this is almost certainly obfuscation to avoid the stigma of illegitimacy. In fact Elizabeth's younger sister Martha married John Ferguson, which may have given rise to the erroneous assumption of Elizabeth's maiden name. I can provide details and reasoning off-line if you wish. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. I have no idea what to make of that! I do think for sure that these families are connected... I'll have to go back and look at the 1900 census now... I remember that there were a LOT of Freemans on the same page or the one next to it. I also found on that census, one page over, that there was an Ottis McManus who was three years older than Mary. I was wondering if he might be a brother, but I found his family, it didn't seem so. (Though the mom's name was N.D.) Off to check the Freemans! :) Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
