This publication was compiled presumably from all extant Amite County MS courthouse records for the named period of time. If you are speculating that the marriage took place before 1810, then you would look in Wilkinson County MS, from which Amite County was taken on 14 February 1809. Wilkinson County was taken from Adams County MS on 30 January 1802. Of course, the State of Mississippi was not formed until 1817, so prior to that date, these counties would have been in the Mississippi Territory. This encompasses Amite and Wilkinson Counties for that period because the boundaries changed numerous times. Sorry, but that does narrow your search. Author: hmartinsoward3 Surnames: Lard/Laird, Turner, Burt Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.mississippi.counties.amite/1195/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Thomas Lard arrived in South Mississippi from Barnwell District, South Carolina, in 1810. Who were his children? Josiah Lard also migrated to Mississippi from SC. My ancestor, Absalom Lard, was born in 1804 in Kentucky although his family was apparently from Barnwell, SC. Josiah Lard had a son who was born in Kentucky in 1804 also. It appears they left SC, went to KY, went back to SC and then moved permanently to Mississippi. Was Absalom a son of Thomas Lard? Absalom Lard married Jane (Gincy) Turner Burt. She had previously been married to Isaac Burt. Absalom and Jane left the Amite/Lawrence County area and moved to Scott County, Mississippi by 1850. By 1860 Absalom Lard was in Bastrop County, Texas. Did Jane die in Mississippi, on the way to Texas, or in Texas? Their son Elzey B. Lard was my 3rd great grandfather. Elzey was a Confederate soldier and a Mason. He died, probably in Caldwell County, Texas, in 1872. Would like to exchange info with anyone interested.
