John Please direct any replies to Suzanne Stewart <[email protected]> -------- Original Message -------- Subject: Burial location question Date: Mon, 09 Jan 2012 02:30:44 -0500 From: Suzanne <[email protected]> To: [email protected] <[email protected]> Hi, I am trying to find the grave of Malinda Duck Cupit Westbrook, my great-grandmother. She died in 1913 in Amite County. When we sent for her death certificate,it could not be found. The current funeral home there does not have records that far back. Can you tell me where I might look next? She was married to Napoleon B. Westbrook but he later remarried and was buried alone in Midway Cemetery in Meadville, MS. I am from Alabama so I am not familiar with these places. We did find one news clipping about her death in the Brookhaven Daily newspaper on Aug.6,1913 but neither the burial place nor any funeral info was mentioned. It only said that she died in Amite County and that she was "born and reared near Lucien".Thank you, Suzanne Stewart

Author: ggLongmire Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.mississippi.counties.amite/1197.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: The Jerusalem Baptist Church (or The Baptist Church of Christ at Jerusalem), near Gillsburg in Amite County MS, was extant from 1812 until the Civil War, when it was turned over to black congregations. There is no mention of a cemetery by that name, nor of any JAMES MILLER, in the 1993 publication by Uvvon Serena Abbess Haymon entitled AMITE CO. MS CEMETERIES. However, I have access to an abstract of the church record book, in which a JAMES MILLER was received as a member by experience and baptized in December 1826. Members of the church, as reported in April conference 1842, included a JAMES MILLER, SR. Later in that record is the death date of JAMES MILLER, SR. as being 27 December 1827. I have more information about that church and its members, should you wish, since its first pastor, HOWELL WALL, was my 4th great-grandfather. In the meantime, you might also wish to contact the Amite County Historical and Genealogical Society (www.achgs.org). Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
