Mrs. Jo Bessie Buckley was born March 28, 1931 in Lake, Mississippi, the fifth child out of nine to the late Mr. Joe Montgomery and Mrs. Ira Bell (Gray) Montgomery. Waiting for her in heaven are her husband, Johnnie Thomas Buckley, Sr.; son, Willie Montgomery; sisters, Bettye Montgomery, Estella White, Rosie Davis, Ruby Johnson; and brothers, Johnie B. Montgomery and Allen Clarence (A.C.) Montgomery. Jo Bessie accepted Christ at an early age. She graduated in 1951 from Sherman Hill Vocational High School in Lake, Mississippi. She enjoyed watching and playing sports especially basketball. In 1958, Jo Bessie married Johnnie Thomas Buckley, Sr. and moved to Akron, Ohio. Their four children completed this union. Joe Bessie was an active member at Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church until recent years. She was a caring and loving woman who enjoyed sewing and baking for her family and friends. Jo Bessie leaves to cherish her fond memories, four children, Gwendolyn Smith, Johnnie Buckley, Jr., Terri Buckley, and Gary Buckley, all of Akron, Ohio; one sister, Carrie Willis of Detroit, Michigan; one brother, Lonzo Montgomery of Lake, Mississippi. She also leaves twelve grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends. Service will be held Saturday, January 8, 2011 at 12 Noon at Shiloh Baptist Church, 1214 Grant St., Akron, OH 44301, Rev. Curtis Minter officiating. Interment at Mt. Peace Cemetery. Friends may visit at the church from 11 a.m. until time of service. Procession will form at 845 Bulger St., Akron, OH 44306 and condolences may be sent to 307 Noble Ave., Akron, OH 44320.
