I am researching Lawrence, Jeff Davis and Covington Cos, in MS as well. My husband's mom was a Bowens and some of the family spelled it Bournes. Her dad was Charlie Bowens they lived around the Silver Creek area. His dad was Willis and their name was spelled Bowens, Bournes, Bourns over the years. I remember seeing Ishman Bournes and family in my research.
