Born Jan. 21, 1923, in Senatobia, Mississippi,(Tate County) she was the daughter of Carey and Mary Lou (Hill) Cox. Mrs. Short was a member of Spelman Chapel A.M.E. Church in Kent, Ohio for many years. Survivors include her son, Herbert Calvin of Bedford, Ohio; daughters, Deloris Short Madget of Richmond, Calif. and Merrellene Short Goins of Hercules, California; 11 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; brother, Wrennie Cox of Memphis, Tenn.; and sisters, Pauline Baker of Denver, Walula Saucedo of Chicago and Christine Johnson of Batesville, Miss. Her husband, Rogaster, died in 1970. Her son, Lewis L. Sr.; granddaughter, Ginger; three brothers and two sisters died previously. Visitation will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at Spelman Chapel AME Church in Kent, Ohio where services will follow at 2 p.m., with the Rev. James H. Walker officiating. Burial will be in Standing Rock Cemetery in Kent. Bissler & Sons Funeral Home in Kent is handling arrangements. Memorials may be made to the Spelman Chapel AME Church Building Fund or Sunday School, 910 Walnut St., Kent, Ohio 44240. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
