Born Jan. 21, 1923, in Senatobia, Mississippi,(Tate County) she was the daughter of Carey and Mary Lou (Hill) Cox. Mrs. Short was a member of Spelman Chapel A.M.E. Church in Kent, Ohio for many years. Survivors include her son, Herbert Calvin of Bedford, Ohio; daughters, Deloris Short Madget of Richmond, Calif. and Merrellene Short Goins of Hercules, California; 11 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; brother, Wrennie Cox of Memphis, Tenn.; and sisters, Pauline Baker of Denver, Walula Saucedo of Chicago and Christine Johnson of Batesville, Miss. Her husband, Rogaster, died in 1970. Her son, Lewis L. Sr.; granddaughter, Ginger; three brothers and two sisters died previously. Visitation will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at Spelman Chapel AME Church in Kent, Ohio where services will follow at 2 p.m., with the Rev. James H. Walker officiating. Burial will be in Standing Rock Cemetery in Kent. Bissler & Sons Funeral Home in Kent is handling arrangements.
