Volunteers needed to inventory VA cemetery memorials The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) is seeking volunteers to research and photograph monuments in its 120 national cemeteries and 33 soldiers' lots under VA jurisdiction. In May, 2002, it was estimated that 300 memorials would be found. To date, nearly 800 memorials have been identified, with approximately 300 more in 20 states still to be documented. The VA provides instructions, survey questionnaires and film. Volunteers take measurements and photographs, record inscriptions, make notes about the monument's condition and conduct historical research. For information about the project or to volunteer, contact historian Darlene Richardson at 202-565-5426 or email [email protected] Projection information will be made available through the Smithsonian Institution's art inventory database. source: Reunions magazine, June/July 2004, page 59 (perhaps your cemetery research holds some of the information they are collecting) ________________________________________________________________ The best thing to hit the Internet in years - Juno SpeedBand!
