    1. [MSAFRICANAMER] Documentary: Reunited After 150 Years of Separation!
    2. Melvin J. Collier
    3. Hello, Some of you may have read about the special reunion that occurred last year? See documentary links below. Brief synopsis: From research, I'd uncovered that my great-great-great-grandparents, an enslaved couple in So. Carolina, suffered the emotional pain of watching their children being split apart in 1859. Sadly, they all never saw each other again, even though most of them were taken to various parts of Mississippi. One of their children was my great-great-grandfather, a man named Pleasant Barr. Research led to the whereabouts of where the children ended up, and their living descendants were located. Over 250 descendants came together last year here in Atlanta on the 150th year anniversary of when the involuntary family separation occurred, and we went back to Abbeville, South Carolina -- the last place where the family was together on Rev. William H. Barr's small plantation. The reunion received some media coverage in South Carolina, but many folk are unaware that this type of reunion had occurred here in America. My cousin produced a short documentary about the history and this "unique" reunion, and it has been uploaded to YouTube. Check it out when you get a chance. It's divided into 5 segments, which totals 30 minutes. Feel free to share with others. It's only 5 years but if they are available it gets you past that 1870 Census barrier. Also, there may be birth records for slaves before 1865. I found slave births included in the regular birth records in Mason Co., KY back into the 1840s and 1850s. Forgot that this meant money to the slave owner so they were recorded.
