Our family lived about 20 miles from Clarksdale near Rudyard, MS. and Cohoma, MS. We went to Hull. My cousin just attended a class reunion in Clarksdale the first week in August. The other surnames that you mention are not familiar to me with the exception of Redd. My cousin's father owned a resturant in Clarksdale many years ago, called Thigpen's Chicken Shack. I still have relatives living in Clarksdale, and other parts of the Delta. Perhaps some might know of your family, because they have been there for all their lives. Butler, and Thigpen are their names. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Author: kdberr1 Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/topics.ethnic.afam.ms/1445.2/mb.ashx Message Board Post: HI: Try checking military records for World War I and World War II for Thomas Caldwell. All men born as early as 1877 had to register for WWWI. There's draft records for men born as late as the 1890s for WWII. Look for marriage records for everyone since you know the cities where they were born. And check the death certificates for where they were buried -- if the cemetery is listed on the death certificates, the cemetery may have records. The death certificate may have the name of the church if the person is buried at their church cemetery. If so the church may have burial records too. Have you traced Thomas Caldwell through the U.S. Census, starting with 1930 in Tupelo where Lula Mae was born 9 years later? You can probably trace Thomas Caldwell back to 1900, just remember he is 10 years younger every time. Same for Beatrice if you know her maiden name, starting with the 1930 Census also. Do you have Beatrice's marriage record? How about her parents' marriage record? That may have the names of James and Bettie Heaven's parents and Bettie's maiden name. Try to find Thomas Caldwell's death certificate if you know the MS county where he died, it may have his parents' names on it, and that will give you a lead for looking for them in the Census. Also James nor Bettie were born into slavery. Fanny Heaven is James mother and she most likely was not not born in slavery, so saturate that county and you should get more answers. My Caldwells lived in Mississippi. OG Caldwell is the only one I have been able to find. I am actually looking for grgrandma Effie/Autha Caldwell. She became my grgrandfather Lee Adams, wife wife about 1898 in Ms. All I have is her name..the true name..Autha Caldwell. It seems like these CALDWELLS, just 'showed up'. It is a puzzle. My information came from the granddaughter of OG Caldwell who lives in another state. Her daughter saw a posting on the internet of my search. LIFE IS A hoot!!!
