I am looking for any information on the Couparle Methodist Church on Rocky Hill Road, founded by ex-slaves after the Civil War. I would like to know when the Church was established, who the original Deacons and Elders were, early members and any other historical information. Is the Church still open. Next the Church is a cemetery where many members of the families of Ruffin, Sallie, Jane, Dru/Drew/ Elick/Alex and Heyward are buried. Information would be most appreciated. Judy

Hope it get's through. Pinkston was found once in 1880 Johnston SC for my Harriet and Henry. Their names were actually Pin(c)kney --I think. At least that's the name I have traced them all the way to 1930. There was a Lucy, my ggrandma VANCE and Lucia the duaghter of Elbert VANCE my grgranmother's daughter. No other names you have mentioned are on the tree at this time. Maybe you should look intothe Pinkney surname in south carolina. There are many on the eastern side of USA. Jettie84- My family also lived in Pemiscot Co., MO, Bragg City. There was a family of Jackson's who lived with and near them in Bragg City. I believe one was Thedoris. My family moved there around 1932 from Blytheville, Ms. Co., AR. Their names were Willie Miller and Velva Mae Morton Hudson. Their children were Frencella, Frederick (Ella Mae Griffin), Mabel, Robert, Opal, Virgil, and Eloise Hudson. Willie farmed and drove a school bus. I was born in 1939 and my family moved to St. Louis, MO in 1944. I did not know the Crow Family. I am interested in the Wakefield Family (Anna Belle) who lived in Kennett, MO.

There are two churches, one is Rock Hill United Methodist Church and there is a cemetary near the church. There's also a Sand Creek Chapel Baptist Church, but I'm not sure if there is a cemetary. More than likely your relative is buried at the Methodist church. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Jettie84: Have you checked Ancestry library edition for Mississippi Deaths and marriages at your library? The St. Louis Genealogy Society has Marriage and Death records for MS. on microfilm. They give the name, county, race, death cert. #, and year of death starting in 1912. Based on the death cert. # you should be able to order the certificate. There are also marriage records going back into the 1800s that use the soundex code system on microfilm at the STLGS.
