Looking for information on A. or Aral Brown of Clarke County, MS., owned several slaves. I don't know the name of the Plantation. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you. Pat
In response to the inquiry re Mary Banks Campbell, 14 Oct 2004: I located the death certificate number on the MS. Vital Records Death Certificate Index, 1934-1941, Roll MSVR-7 today. The death certificate number is 17183, Clarke Co. (12), code 2 (A/A). If you write to the MS Vital Records, State Board of Health, P O Box 1700, Jackson, MS., 39205 for the certificate, it will provide dod, funeral home, cemetery, informant etc. who could still be living. I don't know the current rate. The funeral home may still be in business/may have turned records over to the local genealogy society for publication/may have merged with another funeral home. The Everton Guide says that Clarke was formerly part of Washington Co. and the county seat is now Quitman Co., 39355. There is a Marks-Quitman Co. Library, 315 E. Main St., Marks, MS 38646, which may have microfilmed newspapers covering the time frame of interest. I doubt there was an obituary but check. I too have Banks in part of my family line originating in MS. Co., Ark and later St. Louis, MO. I hope the above helps. E.
