    1. Hardy Family?
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/lIB.2ACE/576 Message Board Post: I'm searching for the AfricanAmerican Hardy family who resided in Jones County in the early 1900s. Julia Chapman married Walter Hardy in Newton County, MS. They had 4 children (Bertha, Corena, William and John). Sometime around 1904, Julia married her second husband, Alfred Chapman and they moved the family to Jones County, the Hardy children with them. By 1930, it appears Julia had married a third husband with the last name of Alridge, who was deceased by 1930, as Julia was listed as windowed and living alone in Jones County. Would appreciate any information anyone can provide on this family. Thanks Charlie

Surnames: Bingaman, Cohen Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/lIB.2ACE/33.2.1 Message Board Post: My ancestor was Amelia Bingaman, one of the daughters of Adam Lewis Bingaman. She was born in Natchez, but was in New Orleans by 1856 and was emancipated by her father. She had a son by William Henry Toy and later became the common law wife of Bernard Cohen, by which she had 6 more children. I'm a descendant of one of their sons, Bernard B. Cohen. Another of their sons, Walter Louis Cohen, became prominent in N.O. politics and began the People's Life Insurance Co. of New Orleans. I have found the name Bingaman spelled several different ways, including Bingham. There may be a connection. Jennifer

    3. For the Civil War soldier records, try searching at this site: http://www.itd.nps.gov/cwss/ Just doing a quick search, I found 28 men named Jeff Williams in the Union infantry and 17 in the Confedreate. You can narrow the search by state and type of unit he served in, if you know. I'd also check with the Mississippi Department of Archives and History to see if he or his wife claimed a Confederate pension. Also, check the 1890 Mississippi Index of Civil War Veterans and Their Widows. There are a number of Civil War research guides available that will help you track down most sources. Start with your library or check Amazon.com. If you want to send me a scan of the photo (keep the resolution low, no larger than 150 dpi but preferably 70 to 100 dpi), I will see if I can ID the uniform. I'm no expert, but have some experience in that area. Ralph Poore 3440 S.
