She was related to me. I think Rachel was also related to Nathan Dampier. He may have been her father. She also had several siblings. Rachel and her sibling were all Mulatto race. The family was from Lawrence and Simpson County areas in Mississippi. My name is Victor Newsome and I live in Indianapolis, Indiana. I have been researching the families for several years and have hit many road blocks. I have done DNA Testing with two sites as well and can share that information. I can be reached via email at vindianapolis7@aol.com. We can can also exchange information and talk over the phone as well. Thank you very much for sharing. I am elated. Amazing. These are indeed the right people and the right time and place. I am in shock. I am assuming the "surrender" refers to the end of the civil war. Thank you very much. If you come across any other info please contact me at MBritt@surewest.Net! Fantastic!!!!! :-) Best Regards, Michael Britt Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. In 1880 the family was living in Kemper County, Mississippi: https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:M4GF-JJS On September 4, 1879, a letter from James Alderman seeking information about his wife's family was published in the (New Orleans) Southwestern Christian Advocate: MR. EDITOR - I wish to see if I can obtain any information through your paper of my wife's mother Matilda Greham, and family. Her step father was Ned Greham: she had a sister named Hannah Jane and a brother named Rannell McGuin; I do not know the names of the other children. Mother and children were sold by Simeon Tucker to Mr. Greham, who took them to Wayne County, Miss., about 30 (??? - difficult to read - the last number is cut off and I am not 100% certain that "30" is accurate, but it is definitely a 2-digit number that begins with a "3") years ago. My wife got a letter from her mother after the surrender: she was then living near Shubuta Miss. My wife's name was Elizabeth Ann Tucker. She is about 36 years old, has married and still lives in the same neighborhood where her mother left her. Address me at Herbert, Kemper Co., Miss. - JAMES ALDERMAN I hope this helps; good luck with your search! Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. But here's the problem---my understanding about my grandfather was the fact that he was adopted by Steve and Eliza, hence the name Anding. He was sired by one of the white McDaniels and a black slave woman at that time. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. It is always important to explore and compare all options including the fact that peoples penmanship was not always great so they wrote words the way the sounded to them. In addition, P"s B's and R's were often confused, O's and A's., that kind of thing. Another point is that when people wrote sometimes they would write half the word and then the next half with a space between so it appears as if they are two words, vs. one.
