Hello List: I am hoping for some help, any help, suggestion or whatever. I have been working on this brickwall forever now and not making a dent in it. I am looking for Magdlena Keissel (Keisel) b. 1843 in Louisiana. I was able to find them in the 1850 Harrison County Census, Magdlena was listed as Helena but the age and siblings match. Her parents were Peter and Catherine Clovak Keissel. Her siblings are Catherine b. 1838 in Germany and Jacob born 1847 in Mississippi. After finding them in 1850, its like the fell off the face of the planet ... I found Magdlena when she married Alexander Henry Johnston in 1863 in New Orleans, LA. Her parents I can't find ever again. Her brother, Jacob, I found in 1880 census in New Orleans (I believe) and found his death date, sister Catherine, don't know what happened to her. Another puzzle, is that Magdlena married Alexander Henry Johnston in 1863, when she signed her sons birth certificates in 1863 and 1867 she signed Magdlena SHERWOOD ???? ... Where does Sherwood come into play now? Yikes. Anyone have any thoughts of why this might had been. When I found the succession of Magdlena Johnston she uses the name Keissel all through it. I just don't know, this is sooooooo confusion. Would anyone have a male Bruton unaccounted for? -Looking for parents and siblings of Thomas Houston/Huston Bruton who was born in MS -sometime between 1865 and 1875- Unable to find and 1880 census He met Cassanna Osborne/Osburn born 1875 in Fayetteville ARK around the area of Sunset....and married about 1895-1896 .....Unable to find a marriage certificate. Evidently traveled to OK sometime just before 1900 and found census for them listing children on the 1900, 1910, and 1920. Family Rumor states that he possibly killed a man who attacked him with a knife (unknown time Frame and state), changed his name then changed it back after moving to OK around the Cookson Hill area..then later to Beggs, OK. One of his children, Tom Houston Bruton, junior is buried in BEGGS Sometime after 1920 Cassanna deceased then Thomas deceased and have been unable to locate dates and places of burial. Hi Lists: Since we have new people joining the lists ... I am going to try my mysterious Keissel's. Peter Keissel (Kleissel) b. 1808 in Germany d. ??????. He married Catherine Clovak b. 1808 d. ??????. They had 3 children: Catherine b. 1838 in Germany d. ???????; Magdlena b. 1843 in Louisiana d. 12 September 1898 in New Orleans, LA.; and Jacob b. 1847 in Mississippi d. Oct. 1893 in New Orleans, LA. They are ONLY found in the 1850 Harrison County, Mississippi Census (KLEISSEL). I have not been able to find the family after that together. By July 1863, Magdlena is in New Orleans, LA and marrying Alexander Henry Johns(t)on. I am able to locate Magdlena in the 1870 and 1880 Census. Jacob shows in the 1880 Census. But as far as the family in 1860, I don't know where they are. Peter & Catherine and the daughter Catherine I do not know what happened to them. ANOTHER QUESTION I have is this .... on birth records and marriage record for Magdlena Keissel she signs her name Magdlena Sherwood. Keissel and Sherwood are very far off ... why would she sign her name as Magdlena Sherwood in stead of Keissel? I have tried and tried to find them but to no avail. Any suggestions or help is greatly appreciated. <DIV id=RTEContent> <DIV id=RTEContent> <DIV> <DIV> <DIV><FONT face=verdana color=#7f007f>Thanks in advance,</FONT></DIV> <DIV><FONT face=verdana color=#7f007f>Tami Johnston</FONT></DIV> <DIV><FONT face=verdana color=#7f007f>New Orleans, LA</FONT></DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>VISIT MY WEBSITE AT:</DIV> <DIV><A href="http://www.geocities.com/lqqkin_for_a_needle_in_a_haystak/SeekinMyGenealogy.html"><FONT color=#2d2d2d>http://www.geocities.com/lqqkin_for_a_needle_in_a_haystak/SeekinMyGenealogy.html</FONT></A></DIV> <DIV><STRONG><FONT face=verdana color=#7f007f></FONT></STRONG> </DIV> <DIV><STRONG><FONT face=verdana color=#7f007f>JOHNSTON/HOFFMAN/HUFFMAN/STEINBREDER / WEISHEIMER/</FONT></STRONG></DIV> <DIV><STRONG><FONT face=verdana color=#7f007f>SPROUL(e)/HIGGINS/KEISEL/SHERWOOD/HOERNER/ZWEIFEL/MARTI/</FONT></STRONG></DIV> <DIV><STRONG><FONT face=verdana color=#7f007f>DOCLAR/DOCLAU/HUCKINS/ARNOULT/and many more</FONT></STRONG></DIV></DIV></DIV></DIV></DIV> --------------------------------- Ring'em or ping'em. Hi list, the above site has recently been updated with various records covering Settlement,Bastardy,Apprentice,Removal etc. Derbyshire based it contains many names of folks from other counties who for one reason or another had a connection however tenuous with Derbyshire. The surrounding Counties of Leicestershire, Nottinghamshire, Staffordshire, Cheshire and Yorkshire figure more prominently than others further afield although most Counties are represented. References to America and Canada, although few are nevertheless to be found. So if you have lost an English ancestor it may just be your lost Uncle Jack is here. ! Although the records are Derbyshire based, they hold good for most areas of England and will give you a flavour of the type of records to be found within County Record Offices.
