    1. [MS-HARRISON-SHIP-ISLAND] Need Help with Tesearch
    2. Hi Everyone- I am new to the list and I need your help! I am researching and compiling information for a book titled: "The History of the Lyman, MS" - and wish to solicit help from anyone anywhere. For you that are not familiar with the Lyman area, it's located on the north end of Gulfport in the vicinity of Hiways 49 and 53. At one time this was a thriving town, divided into with streets, stores and even a theatre. The center of commerce were saw mills and a center for shipping citrus fruits grown in the area all supported by the Gulf & Ship Island Railroad. I have resided in the Lyman community for over 50 years and well remember some of the old families that are now gone. I wish now I had started this project sooner! As for my qualifications, I have written and published 7 family history books in the past. The Eastes Families of Indiana, The Descendants of John Long Sr. of Maryland (1625-1746), The Descendants of John Molloy from the Isle of Jura Scotland (1726-1804), The Descendants of Elisha Estes of Roane Co., TN, The Ancestors of Elisha Estes of Roane Co.,TN, The Saga of Obadiah Estes/Eastes and The Estes/Eastes Families of America, Our English Roots (1495-1720). This proposed book will not be for sale but placed on CD and given free to Historical repositories and those individuals who are interested. I found long ago that family history books cannot be compiled and published with the thought in mind to sell enough copies to recover expenses. The target population is to small! So, I publish enough copies for my immediate family then put it on CD and give them free to others to read on a computer or print their own. Once printed, it can be bound at places like Office Depot at a reasonable price. I am searching for any information on the early settlement of the Lyman Community. I am particularly interested in stories and pictures of the local businesses, the people and sawmills and the railroads that were used in their support. Also any court records, maps, stories and pictures of the families who lived in the area in the early days. At 87 years, I am home bound and cannot visit the libraries like in the past so and have to rely on on-line resources and the goodwill of friends and neighbors! If anyone has any material that I can borrow to be scanned and returned or suggestions on where information might me located I would appreciate hearing from you. Thanking you in advance for your consideration - Best Regards to All - LeRoy (Roy) F. Eastes MSgt Ret.
